No missile slot for the Imperial Light Cruiser?

By ShadowFox1138, in Star Wars: Armada

In the wiki they mention that the cruiser has missiles but yet the ship has no missile upgrade, but keeps the black dice. I find this puzzling...does anyone else?

Sure. It has missiles.

Just not enough of them to justify it being a primary attack mode.

I mean, in the same vein - the ISD1 has a suite of missiles, and the correspondeding black dice, but has no Ordnance Slot either...

... Because they're a secondary weapon, overall.

ISD-1 never had missiles....not in lore (or legends) nor in game. Just a lot of different types of turbolasers.....quads, triple barrel, medium and heavys

I wouldn't doubt you. But there's also art depicting them as launching stuff.

Never seen that art, but likewise I will not doubt you on this.

Dat sass

???

I figured black dice on isd1 was to abstract the strength of particular lasers it had equipped. .. not that black dice equals missiles

Have we seen them use missiles ever?

It kind of stands to reason in the design space. If it had blue instead of black (which would arguably be better overall for this style of ship), then the more expensive version would have to have an extra die added somewhere, or have it's price dropped. I wouldn't have been against seeing 3 red and a blue out of the side, and a red/blue up front, but the design space suggests it's bigger brother should at least have an extra red up front to hold the points difference, and even then you'd have to increase the cost of both ships overall to reflect that firepower boost.

Sometimes a game needs to drop a stat to make the rest of the ship make sense. In this case, it's either raise the points or drop the last die to a black. Gameplay > Fluff.

I doubt (daht) you all

One of the original 3 Zann books had the Chimara launching missiles at a target.

The Arquitens I mean.

I don't really like calling them missiles, ion cannons, or turbo-lasers. I'd prefer short range, medium range, and long range instead since they are more akin to abstractions of volleys of fire. So yeah no short range upgrade.

You have no idea how much that I am, One, on your side, and Two, tired of the argument ever since the MC30 Turbo-Ion Scandal.... :D

It was not the 3....it was in the duo....Specters of the Past....he fired them from Imperial II class at Pirates...and it was proton torpedoes to be exact. But its never been clear why that ship had that armament...perhaps a special customization Pellaeon requested.

But I believe that the missile question was in reference to the Light Cruiser and not the ISD.

If they have an Ordance slot, you only get to use it on 1 version, and even then have 1 die in the front and back to try to crit something with. Maybe you could take Flechette whatevers and attack squads. But with 1 black die, I don't see why they would both putting an Ordance slot on it.

You would have a long range flanker, that also wants to get close, but has to double arc. It doesn't have the maneuverability of a Glad to get in position. You would end up redesigning the ship to try and put an Ordance slot on the ship, and it would likely be the offspring of a Vic I and Glad. Sounds cool, but it starts to make all Imp fleets close range brawlers, and then the game can get boring.

The Arq was designed to give another option to the Imps that is not a front arc ship or another close range APT ship.
