EPT cards .are there more than 4of them?

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing

I'll tell you what I'm going to do.

I'm going to put lightning reflexes on vesseryand run it with Ryan and whatnot.

One time use...sure...

Having a swirly defender with a crazy move to make it harder to predict once...

I think it might just be awesome . That one time crazy movement could seal a game up.

It is so tempting.

2. Crackshot

3. Veteran

4. Juke

5. Mindlink

Yeah, about five

Maybe 6 with swarm leader

I am pretty sure that Predator, Adaptability, Lone Wolf and Deadeye are 4 EPT cards which exist.

Trick shot will be used quite a bit as well. Fringe usage of EH on Rey is also decent. And rage might be a thing witg Inspiring Recruit. But yeah, the likes of the rest of them are less than stellar. I want to find a usage for outmanuever, but tail gunner is better and cheaper.

There's also Attanni Mindlink and Fearlessness that are fairly close to existing.

Determination will be a Wave 10 thing.

This looks fun. And also, i just played autoblaster turret and trick shot on Kavil. I got it to work on the first round of combat. 4 dice autoblaster turret. So trick shot is a usable card.

I'm totally on the Fearlessness bandwagon at the moment. I want to put it on EVERYTHING.

Shame it's Scum only.

What happened to the Snapshot Swarm?

I use Squad Leader from time to time on Howlrunner when I use my TAP swarm.(Howlrunner w/squad leader, Sienar Test Pilot w/V1 title, guidance chips, and Proton Rockets x4) It is good to give one of the schmucks the needed focus to get of a procket. It works fairly well. It does leave your leader token-less, but sometimes that's ok.

The 'second tier' EPTs often see use on A-wings as they have the slot and don't pay the opportunity cost of not having PTL, Predator, etc. Outmaneuver is highly effective on them, as can Wingman when flown in pairs.

Various other EPTs have 'niche' builds on one or two pilots - for example Snap Shot on Nien Numb, Stay on Target on Nien or Keyan Farlander. Draw their Fire is sometimes used on regen rebel ships to escort Biggs, and Swarm Tactics saw a lot of use on Howlrunner, although this seems to have faded recently. Rage works very nicely on a Baffled Quickdraw or Tycho, and will probably see more use once the U-Wing drops.

Daredevil Rey is a lot of fun!

So yes, there are EPTs that see more table time than others, but no, there are only a few that don't see at lease some use somewhere.

Still wanting to try Ruthless Colonel Stressery out as well. Unfortunately, he's more useful in Epic at the moment.

Listjuggler tells an interesting story about EPTs. According to the last months results-

Tier 1-

Push the Limit

Nearly HALF of all EPTs taken are Push the limit.

Tier 2-

Veteran Instincts

Juke

Crack Shot

Predator

Lone Wolf

Attani Mindlink

Tier 2 is all EPTs taken 2% or more.

Tier 3-

Everything else.

Everything else is taken less than 2% of the time.

As always, take this with a grain of salt. Marksmanship was taken 1.5% of the time, which seems totally absurd to me. Makes me think a couple guys in Vassal league had lists they were unbending on that had Marksmanship in there.

The thing is with all the upgrade that are available and MOV taking even a heavier cost now that modified wins are no longer a thing (They should have just let the loser get a draw) Upgrades now are rather at inflated values in terms of cost efficiency. What I'm trying to say is Upgrades points are the most expensive for their value, and the EPT slot being the most saturated slot meaning more upgrades are going to be thrown off to the side than ever.

So right now you have 0 point upgrades which cost the slot which some might already value at 2 points (thanks to upgrades like Heavy Scyk and Chardaan Refit) so even a 0 point upgrade has an inherent cost to them.

1-2 point upgrades are the most common and affordable as they don't inflate the MOV for your opponent if they get a kill as much. Still right now 2 points are starting to be considered expensive. There are many spoiled 2 point upgrades that get nothing more than a "meh" out of the Vassal scene. So in a way 2 point upgrades are considered a premium cost.

3 point upgrades have to be extremely good. The only one used right now are Predator which adds in rerolls saving actions and PTL which is all action economy.

4+ are considered too expensive unless they do one of the following, remove an enemy ship or save your ship at least twice per game. In other words any upgrade that cost more than 3 has to be such a game changer it could be considered OP.

We might be in a mini Swarm meta where you don't want too fragile of ships but you want enough to take some losses while retaining as much MOV as possible. The half point rule keeps those large based point fortress ships around so now small ship defense is the most sought thing out there. And that also means keeping your ships lean. Along with MOV there is also the bid for initiative so again every point matters.

How to reduce the influence MOV has on the competitive scene is a difficult thing. Modified wins were remove to try and reduce the MOV but IMHO I think it made the MOV that much stronger. Instead having the loser in a close match get only 1 point as if it were a draw it might have been better but that is rather a moot point since Mod wins are likely not to come back.
