My "Nemesis" class Star Destroyer I scratch built ship from a Revell model for Star Wars Armada game. I used two of Mel's Imperial Star Destroyer mod kits for the turrets and bridge, some turrets from MechWorld (shapeways) for the and bits left over from a Battle Fleet Gothic game I had laying around. It's massive in game size but not too big. That is a Victory class Star Destroyer next to it for scale and that is the size I want the ship to be.

This is a work in progress; I just painted it today and already I'm going to change a few things I'm not happy with like the dark areas and (maybe) some of the big mega turbo laser turrets. Here's the 5$ tour...

The bridge: It's a standard Imperial Star Destroyer Bridge (Mel's) mounted on BFG bits. A bit of research reveled that the empire used a standard sized bridge on all their ISD and bigger ships; even on the 19KM Executioner SSD. This helps lock the model into it's size in the game: it's about 3.5 times the size of a ISD. 15317946_1320367478027141_18851063464487 15317814_1320366884693867_57179229222698

I'm so going to paint a worn Bush/Cheney bumper sticker back there somewhere. :D

The broadside firepower on the Nemesis is about equal to the firepower of both broad sides of an ISD... the upper turrets are standard ISD sized heavy turbo laser and ion cannon turrets (Mel's) that, again, lock in the scale of the ship and the four super turbo laser turrets are Mechworld turrets I changed the barrels on. In the game those are pretty much eye candy for now... I'm making a story line for them. 15319099_1320366918027197_55093487861333

I used some cool looking Battlefleet Gothic turrets for trench turrets... 15380349_1320367638027125_30750046905165

The forward super turbo laser turrets and the auxiliary bridge (I love the look and concept of this bridge) 15327344_1320367118027177_55288609605847

One last look for now... 15439721_1320367738027115_41009757701474

The plan is to mount the model on two large ship bases (Mel's) so it will have two cards... one for the forward section of the ship and the other for the stern. Kind of like how they did the SSD over at boardgame geeks. But that for another thread.

That's beautiful, can't wait to see pics of it on the game table.

Really nice, but you gotta go standard grey. Anything else would take away from it.

Not a fan of all the turret aesthetics, but ****, that's crazy.

And to contrast Dedmanzhand, needs a lot more than boring standard grey, we have enough boring to look at imp ships out there.

Holy **** that's awesome.

I'm not happy with the large turrets and they are going to go... I'm working with Mel on fixing that as I ordered his turbo blaster turret 8 and 4 packs ; we'll see how they look in scale for what I want. Till they arrive I scratch built two huge super turbo blaster turrets; while built int he same ship yard with the same weapon system they are so huge they are each a bit unique in their own way post-294924-0-97005600-1481685363_thumb.jpg post-294924-0-63337200-1481685370_thumb.jpg

I repainted (touched up) the ship and removed dark spots; I know all gray is a bit traditionalist but I like the look. I'm gong t pick out some detail once the ship is assembled as I like with the new turrets and a few other things. Here is a few pictures with the new scratch built turrets added for fun. I like the location on the blisters and I think I'll reduce the number of big turrets down the spine to two with one added on to each side blister. We'll see... any ideas or thoughts are welcomed. I'm also up to ideas as to the game stats this ship would have. post-294924-0-14966000-1481686016_thumb.jpg

Looking good mate!

So here she is next to an standard Imperial Star Destroyer...

Question for every one... one large base and one stat card or two large bases and two stat cards? Do you think she's big enough to justify two cards? How about a large stand for the stern and a medium stand for the bow?

Edited by Commander Klank

With the fact you'd need to double stand it to keep gravity from toppling it, I'd say use two bases with the side arcs being split across the bases, but only a single card.

Nah, custom build a "Massive" base

UP date... I got Mel t make me turbo blaster turrets that fit my Revell ISD model I'm using and they fit perfectly. All the turrets are Star Wars type Imperial turrets now. I built a large dual super laser turret for the bow for the SD. I also added some large turbo blaster turrets to give it that battleship look.

Mel's turrets are a perfect fit to replace the crappy looking stamped turrets from the kit.

The big turrets with the scratch built super laser turret in the center. In the game these are jut eye candy for now.

This one positively needs the following sign from Space Balls "We brake for no one!

Or better yet I was going to put a Bush/ Cheney 08 bumper sticker on the back. How evil is that?..

(I've yet to paint the back engine section.)

Somehow don't feel 240 should get that much in 1 package.

Pretty cool. Great work on the model. Have you adjusted setup rules for that? I see it having the entire board at long range at setup haha.

Suggestions (take em or leave em):

I'd say 4 or 5 command stack, maybe 6

Squadron command should be increased as well.

8 engineering is waaaay too high, a bit OP. Reduce to 5or6

Have another narrow arc (if possible) for the super laser aligned with the keel so it can't be fired across the entire front arc

Make the super laser part of a title for 15 points

Increase cost by another 80-100 points

It sets up with the rear of the base on the friendly sides board edge

  • For a single card ship I'm going towards 4 command stack, 6 Squadron and 5 Engineering

  • The super laser is on a bow mounted turret so the firing arch stays but it is going on a title card (for 15 points) as Leviathan. The other title card, Nemesis, is not going to not have the super laser but can generate 1 shield a turn or something like that.

  • The ship is going up to 300 points.

Some at my gaming group suggest a two card ship. That will be next.

I changed the stats but the card didn't change... I guess I have to delete that one and make a new one.

I'm waiting for a few more detail parts (tiny turbo blaster turrets) and then I start on the base...

That is nifty! Turned out quite nicely, very smooth bridge swap.

Cool stuff! Have my version sat on a shelf until I decide what to do with it.

I have considered doing the same thing with an X-wing scale Raider and cutting off the solar panels.
