Well, you're in space. If you are in a spacesuit right next to the Death Star, and hurl it at a location within short personal range of yourself, wouldn't it just keep going if there wasn't anything there to hit it? Newton's laws and all that?

If you were a player at my table, I would entertain this thought if you’d also thought to somehow disable the Death Star’s propulsion systems
I think in star wars space is full of Aether which is why winged ships are a thing. It is also why you can stand in an open exogorths mouth with breathmasks and not have bad pressure related issues. and you can jump from a ship to a mining asteroid...looking at various things in star wars media has lead me to this conclusion...
