Acolyte of Saradyn - getting killed escorting the acolyte

By Aaborre, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi there

In the campaign Heirs of Blood.

Intro encounter Acolyte of Saradyn

Does anyone know what happens with the acolyte, when a hero escorting the acolyte dies?

Is the acolyte dropped?

- If so on the same space as the hero or one adjacent to? And do you have to spend an action picking him up again?

Or is he just connected to the hero with the objective token on his Hero sheet no matter what happens?

I can't find an answer in the rules og quest book for this.

I lean towards the latter because it is not specified.

What have you done if you have been in this situation? Or what would you do?

Unless otherwise specified a hero carrying an objective token needs to follows these rules:

  • Figures may pick up an objective token performing a special action.
  • Figures cannot pick up an objective token carried by other figures nor trade objective tokens.
  • Figures may drop an objective token by performing a special action, placing the token in that figure's space.
  • If a figure carrying an objective token is defeated, the token is placed in that figure's space.

The above rules take effect when no special instructions concerning objective tokens are given in the quest description.

However, in this quest specific rules are given concerning the objective token:The special rules of this quest allow the carrier as an action to give the objective token to an adjacent hero. That's it. Thus, I think, this is the only thing that can happen with the token.

If the general rules would apply, the Goblin Archers and Barghests would be able to capture the acolyte and carry him away! Thinking about it, maybe this is the case! Wouldn't this be interesting?!

I think passing the objective token is allowed in addition to the normal action to put it down, second action for someone else to pick it up. I do not think that necessarily allows monsters to pick the objective token up, as (as far as I know) the quest rules only grant heroes the ability to carry the acolyte.

I just looked it up. No, it is not explicitly noted in the quest description that only heroes may carry the objective.

Either the general rules do not apply or monsters can carry the acolyte away.

Re-reading quest rules myself, I am now of the opinion that the normal carrying rules do not apply. A hero is escorting unless (or until) another hero is. Therefore, since there are no rules for picking him up, the acolyte stays on a hero sheet if said hero is KO.

If the intention is for a drop/pickup to happen, it's not written that way.

I agree. Though, the rules for objective tokens in this and other quests are not as clear as I wish them to be ...

Thx guys for your thoughts on this.
