Dual Turbolasers and other dice mod effects.

By Card Knight, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

So if you add a red die at medium range with Dual Turbolasers Turrets, could you say, use leading shots to reroll the added die, and any other dice in the pool before removing the die? Or do you need to resolve the entire DTT effect before resolving any other dice modification effects?

It is not explicitly stated in the rules manual, but basically, if you are not completely resolving upgrade cards before moving to the next effect, you're opening huge potential cans of worms...

Whats in this can o worms?? I'm trying to figure out what issues it would cause and I'm coming up blank

! ! WORMS ! !

At this point, there's not. But the rules reference does state, in parts, that you resolve an upgrade cards effects at the appropriate time as stated on the card...

Do X, and "Then" do Y, should be right after the other, unless another timing is specified...

Yeah, you can try to email FFG, see if they'll send you an almost official response, but if they do, they'll tell you to completely resolve an effect first, then move on to the next.

You resolve the entire DTT before moving on.

Yeah, I'm with dras and GK on this. Lets say on your liberty, you take Quad Turbo Lasers and Dual Turbo Lasers. You roll your pool, add a red from DTL, its an ACC, so you use QTL to add another ACC and remove a blank you rolled. I also have veteran gunners so I spend one of my ACC, but re-roll the other free die I got from QTL. THEN you can decide that leading shots can happen and you re-roll the rest of your blanks (because, red dice)....I'm sure there are even more shenanigans with this that can be alleviated with the simple "finish one upgrade effect first" thing.

Yep, you completely resolve each effect before moving on. There's no rules precedent allowing you to sneak some other effect into the middle of anything.

I think this falls into "there is no rule to say you can't, but no rule to say you can" situation. And I think the latter takes precedence.

I like to refer to this as the "XKCD Rulebook principle".

I'm expecting FFG to add a timing chart to the FAQ soon with all the new upgrades coming out, like they recently did with X Wing to resolve the multitude of timing questions.

Heh, people were expecting that last FAQ...

In all honesty, we don't have the same timing issues (if, thens) that X-Wing had... The Armada situation is much more straightforward... However, it requires you to read the Rules and apply two rules in particular, that are in different places of the rulebook, but relate directly to each other... :D

I missed this post last December, nice read. The idea of starting the effect from one upgrade then going to do a bit from another before going back reminded me of the ransom notes from old episodes of columbo ( all made from random bits of chopped up newspapers). scary scary.
