Does soontir fel have a place at the table anymore?

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing

As a Dash main (if the term could be applicable,) I sure hope so. He is probably Dash's hardest counter.

Say hello to Fen Rau :P

Mwahaha...

Or maybe they'll finally add the Avenger as an Interceptor title.

TIE Avenger. Title. TIE Interceptor Only.

When rolling agility dice, you may modify all dice to be Evade. -6 Points. You may equip another Title card.

Sounds about right these days. But in all honestly, perhaps something along the lines of:

TIE Avenger. Title. TIE Interceptor Only.

Once per turn, when spending a token to modify dice, do not remove the token from your ship. 2 Points.

It wouldn't really help Fel much since he already has extra tokens, it would force you to chose between AT+SD and Avenger title, but it would help the offense (or defense I suppose) out, without being overtly power-creep. If you consider SD standard equipment, it's really an option between AT and /Avenger.

I have cluster missiles for him...

Mwahaha...

Do you find clusters to work well against Fenn? He gets to add an evade result to both attacks, sure he probably doesn't have a Focus token since it'll be spent on offense, but it seems like you're not going to be doing 4pts worth of damage on him for the clusters.

I just don't think the mouse likes Interceptors at all. Wave 7 on has had a real nasty anti-aces bent to them....I haven't purchased all ships in the waves since wave 7. And in many ways, the ships are not only less-iconic, they're less attractive (opinion fodder).

Preeetty sure "the mouse" doesn't care too much about competitive balance in a relatively niche game, as long as the license is being utilized properly (i.e., proper attention is being given to current media like Rogue One.)

Interceptors have fallen from grace long ago.

Soontir lasted a bit more, but only because of his max PS and awesome action efficiency. He was the last swan song.

Rest in pe-ace, if your soul ever rein-canon-ates, maybe we'll see you in X-Wing 2.0

Avenger is way different from the Interceptor though. The title would also need to add shields and a missile slot at least.

Carnor Jax would like to have a word with you....

Played well, Jax can neuter these token stacking x7s and Attani Mindlink lists. He just needs to be back up by Palpatine to help keep him alive against things carrying around Zuckuss.

Just added a list and a Local God lyric.

I was posied to quote and acknowledge your great reference, but you had to go and call it out. But you do want you want. You do want you want.

Due to Soontir being utterly unkillable in the end game, it's only fair that his counters are common now. The unfortunate point is that now Imperials simply have a better option at a similar price point that doesn't struggle as much with auto damage- x7 Defenders. Take away x7 Defenders, and I think Soontir players still do fine as players adapt over time to better approach his bad match ups.

I think Soontir is in a good place right now. Before FFG introduced more ways to auto-damage people he was a bit OP in a palp aces list. You could literally joust with him and not worry about getting hit, whch is not very thematic for an Interceptor. Now he has to worry about flying really well again.

I know I'm gunna get hate (it's the closest word I could think of. I know actually hate isn't likely) but i feel people are playing Fel wrong these days. With palp being a thing the SD and Auto isn't needed. Targeting computer has done so much work for me that i can't see me taking it off any tume soon.

Autothrusters + Targeting Computer

Fel is still to be feared but not the teeth lacking version that is popular.

Ever clear, that's my motto. No room for ambiguity.

I love that whole soundtrack, one of the best ever assembled.

The only problem I see with that is that you might as well play the Inquisitor for shields and less points when you do that. No issue if you run both of course, but thats a relatively limited archetype.

The Inquisitor (25)

Push the Limit (3)

Autothrusters (2)

TIE/v1 (1)

Soontir Fel (27)

Push the Limit (3)

Autothrusters (2)

Targeting Computer (2)

Royal Guard TIE (0)

Captain Yorr (24)

Emperor Palpatine (8)

Total: 97

Eh, why not? Stressless PTL for the Inquisitor sometimes, immunity to many stress-dealers - the only question is wether Soontir is better than Ryad or Vessery.

100% agree. And it's particularly impressive given how wide-ranging the genres included are. (If anybody cares, we're talking about the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack from ... 1996ish? Underrated movie, criminally underrated soundtrack.)

Usually Fenn Rau has two or three focus tokens in such situations. The power of Mindlink and Manaroo.

Fickle as hell green dice

Between dengaroo and x7s, though, never had a better excuse to try carnor

Edit: Mindlink too!!!

Eh, why not?

Yorr dies just as quick as OGP. The Lambda shuttle itself has become an inadequate Palp carrier. Now Rac with Palp and Inspiring Recruit last at least a good deal longer, but neither Fel nor Ryad fit into that lists if you want to fly still two TIEs along your emperor.

Wampa + Inquisitor should be mighty nice still with RAC. Overall still not convinced of this setup either.

Why is that? Mindlink lists? If the Shuttle worked during the times of JM5K alpha striking I have a hard time believing it doesn't hold up anymore.

Mindlink, new scum alpha strike lists, etc

The think is, JM5ks alpha striking your shuttle ate their torpedos and left them with a ships with zero chance to hit the remaining aces with their pathetic 2 dice attacks. Mindlink lists at the other hand hit like a truck while having still defensive tokens. Scum aces is not as pathetic as Palp Aces on the offense and more importantly: JM5K alpha has suppressed a lot of high damage output lists which deal far too quick with the shuttle. Technically this includes defenders themselves, but the mirror match case did hardly count as point against the palp shuttle, but we see now a lot of other hard hitters again thanks to the uboot nerf and as well thanks to those new ships around. A ship which cost 30 points and stands two turns is hardly worth the points even with the godly dice modifications from Palp.

I said it in the x7 thread, so I guess I'll just repeat it here: Sabine crew made Interceptors pretty much a no-go for me. You fly something like Soontir+Inquisitor+Palp and see double K-wings on the other side of the board - you basically just lost. If your opponent has any idea what he's doing you're going to get SLAMmed over and erased before you even warm up your guns. So it boils down to what your local meta is and how lucky you feel. If you don't get any bomber matchups, Soontir can still carry you quite far. If you do though... game over man.
