So where do all the fighters come from, anyway?

By xanderf, in Star Wars: Armada

Tie Fighter, Tie Interceptor, Tie Bomber have no hyperdrive.

So we got to page two and nobody mentioned the Rapid L(something) from the Pelta that looks like an offensive retrofit that lets you store squadrons on your ship and then deploy them when you're doing a squadron command?

Because we were really excited for it to be revealed and then to have it not was kind of a blue-ballin'.....

I have to say I kind of dig the surprise. It definitely gives this release a Christmas morning surprise when you open your box. Is it another box of socks and underwear or is this a few Nintendo games cleverly hidden by your smarts** relatives?!?!

On the 22nd, I have to go take a 2 hour trip through the snow and most probably -40 wind chills, if this weather prevails, to get to the box, to perhaps be able to open them there...

and then work out if I can get any more.

As it is, I might only hav ethe money for 1-2 (A Full Suite of 1 each + Correllian Conflict is going to set me back $166 and tax)

It just doens't help with decisions.

I refuse to believe you are as old as you sound right now.

While I don't commute like that, I understand budgeting. And I can see your point on the value of multiples. You don't want to collect dust on something sub-par.

Hell, I barely play enough Armada to justify the purchases at this point. I'm grabbing one of each and we'll see how the next 6 months go. If I can get games in and see any tournament action, I'll take stock on what to buy duplicates of.

At least he didn't say that he was walking barefoot, and uphill (both ways).

No, I'm honest about it... Its a flat walk to the Bus stop, but depending on service, its either a 2 minute or a 45 minute wait there, and most of the time is spent after getting off that bus on the Train, before getting off the Raised Station at Sunalta... Then its a 4 block walk.

So its not terrible. Its just... -30 / -40 wind chills at the moment.

The snow isn't even that bad at the moment - only about 2-3 inches...

But there's only so much adaptation an Australian can do to his environment...

Of course not, he's not a Yorkshireman.

Or a Wisconsinite. My grandparents used to tell me they walked uphill to school both ways, because by the time school finished there was so much snow on the ground, it was essentially the same.

It is similar to WW2 campaign games in the Pacific. The carrier dies (while the planes are on a mission) and then the pilots are forced to "ditch" their planes, preferably near a friendly ship. And there probably are instances of emergency "over-capacity" on flight decks in reality (and the SW universe). Also thinking of the "Fall of Vietnam" films showing South Vietnamese choppers being tossed into the sea from US carriers....

While it just feels...odd...thematically for the game in its base state, I sort of wonder how this will work with the Corellian Conflict coming up? Surely, there must be some limit on what Imperial ships can take specific numbers of fighters...and if the 'carrier' is lost in the battle...should surviving fighters be lost, too?

I wouldn't count on that mechanic being included in the Corellian Conflict. It would add unnecessary complexity to the game.

While I'm all for theme in my games, I don't want theme making things more complex than they need to be, or mess with a game mechanic that works.
