Tournaments?

By Bronze, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

How do tournaments work for co-op LCGs? Or do they? Just trying to understand what to expect after playing other FF LCGs.

they usually hold events at GenCon and the like, with exclusive scenarios in a kind of tournament setting where players attempt to win under a certain set of circumstances first or some other kind of victory condition being met over other players. Check out some of the LOTR exclusives like "Murder at the Prancing Pony".

I think it's more of a preview get-together than a tournament, since I read that everybody wins prizes.

In LOTR the "prize" is just receiving the scenario a few months before it's on sale to the general public, an alt-art card, and sometimes a playmat. But since you're paying a participation fee, they're less like prizes and more like purchases.

Tournaments don't really work for co-op LCGs. LOTR had a pseudo scoring system, but it didn't really work that well. They didn't even try a scoring system in this game. So you can expect events, but not tournaments.

Speaking of tournies why do all of the biggest things gotta be Gencon? Why not a big board game company try and get a smaller convention to get butts in by hosting a big todo there? A bit annoying why literally everything at Gencon..(waay too busy for my anxiety but while Origins is small and friendly I think it could do with like maybe once every few years a popular pre-order game is spoiled there or a big tournament)

But despite that on topic I don't see how you can have a tournament of a co-op game but maybe it's like Pathfinder Society(not a fan personally....) I would probably be more comfortable with a co-op tournament then a competitive one my anxiety might be able to take co-op.

This.

And I'll add that they made a wise choice not including a scoring system here.

It was mostly used to beat your own score in lotr l think.

Not remotely useful as anything competative really.

It's a co-op game. No tournaments.

Companies go where the people are, not the other way around. Generally.

There's also Arkham Nights, an Octoberly event hosted by ffg in Minnesota. Tickets are limited, promos are slick, and they seem to share a great time.

The game was on sale early, and attendees were treated to the rougarou pack as a promo,i think. Also a bag for your chaos needs.

Maybe we'll set you there sometime! Next year will hopefully be our first.
