A bit of good news for TIE Striker fans.

By Chief Hugh, in X-Wing

Isnt there usually an update to the FAQ following a wave release? I expect this will be officially resolved soon, until then Frank's email stands as far as i'm concerned.

I'd imagine that it will be in a FAQ and won't be included until the new expansions are released. Previously, Daredevil on Tycho flying with Lando was the only way to even make this happen outside of Epic.

Only step 1 is skipped when ioned so yes an ioned ship that bumps loses its actions.

A ship only skips its “Perform Action” step when it overlaps another ship during the “Execute Maneuver” step of the Activation phase.

apparently this isnt good enough for some people.

It is quite good enough, but unfortunately not in the rules, nor in the FAQ.

You would a TO pause a game so he can dig up a youtube video and a bunch of emails?

Especially when you know that those emails have been, later, overruled by the actual FAQ.

To be fair, since I've been tracking it the emails have rarely overruled by the FAQ unless there was some other change that occurred (the change to Authothrusters, the timing chart, etc.). The FAQ is just as likely to be overruled by a new version of the FAQ.

He's just reiterating what the rules say.

That's just it, he's not reiterating what the rules say, he's actually changing what the rule say.

He's basically adding a "in the execute maneuver step" clause to when overlapping causes you to skip your perform an action step.

Which is fine, they can do that. But they way they say AA will work does not match up with the current RAW.

He's not even making a specific ruling on a new card or action in that email. He's just reiterating what the rules say.

He's not reiterating what the rules say. There is nothing in the rules to support the ruling. I expect that this will change soon.

Yeah, I think (I cannot recall the details) there's been one case where an email was later contradicted by the FAQ.

But you know, "... from time to time <sad beep>"

One of the email questions I sent in and had answered was contradicted by the FAQ. I don't remember which one and it was some time ago.

To be clear, a question was asked about what the actual rules are and why a ruling is even needed to keep a bump from Adaptive Ailerons from causing the Perform Action step from being skipped.

Can someone explain why they think you'd lose your action after doing the movement on your dial, if you bumped with the Aileron maneuver? The rules are quite clear on where the "perform action" step take place and wouldn't be affected by a bump from the aileron maneuver.

Same as if you'd bumped with a Decimator and then used Ysanne crew in the combat phase to get an evade token, right?

This question was answered, the rules on overlapping were posted and explained. Frank's email and the comments on the video are sufficiently official for most of the people that are explaining why the rules as written do not support the ruling.

Can we not use Frank's email response until the FAQ comes out? or is that anathema?

Can we not use Frank's email response until the FAQ comes out?

Sure we can, and IMO we should because it's one of the few cases where we can actually claim to know what RAI are. Even if they are contrary to the RAW that doesn't mean they're wrong because the rules themselves are subject to change.

But that also means you can't expect everyone to know about the email or video, because while I think most people keep up with the FAQ, most people are not going to see that email/video.

You also can't require someone else to accept the email ruling since it's not actually official yet. Myself I think TO's should take such clear cases of RAI into account, but that doesn't mean they have to.

I think it was Gonk.

There always seems to be someone that latches onto the couple of examples of a FAQ contradicting the email rulings and uses that as an argument for why the email rulings are invalid and should be ignored (I'm not implying that that's what you're doing here Dagonet).

Oh, I'm not opposed to using the emails per se, the problem is that you can't expect players to be aware of them when going into a tournament and be put at a disadvantage.

Especially when it is so easily remedied by just amending the FAQ as needed and not wait until certain points.

A similar event happened in Armada an email ruling said one thing then after they play tested the ruling the faq ended up changing it back. So no not in the faq then not enforceable in a tourney.

What's everyone having for breakfast?

I like turtles.

They're a bit stringy early in the morning for my taste. Turtle eggs are quite nice but small.

This,

It is phase specific. The people who actually designed this game made it pretty clear.
