New Mats

By Audio Weasel, in X-Wing

I don't know why everyone is hating so much on the Hoth mat. I get the design of it since what mattered most on Hoth was the ground battle, they zoomed in a bit on purpose already knowing the scale would be technically off. Same with idea as Bespin except they had to zoom in a bit more. It's a design choice over a scale choice in this matter and I think it works alright for me.

Because if you think this mat looks awesome, odds are you would think a Corrected Scale mat would look awesome as well. So FFG is hoping the cheese/nostalgia is going to help sell these mats when, in fact, it is driving a large group of "photo real" kids away.

Just talking to my gaming buddies about these.

I've already got the four current mats, I've got the Admiral level System Open ticket that will get me the mat for that and there's no way I'll be able to resist these. That's seven mats I'll have. I don't even have a table at home so when the *** am I ever going to use 7 mats?!

Roll them up and build a fort out of them?

I don't think it's "awesome," but I sure don't think it desires hatred. To each their own ^_^

Yep, I'd have liked another DSII sort of thing only without the DSII i.e. in orbit of a planet. Bespin and Hoth don't cut it and Starkiller base just makes me cranky.

Hang them as pics at your walls? :)

I like the Starkiller base mat, That's pretty cool (pun not intended). Only thing I don't like about Hoth is the atrocious rebel trenches. Had they never dug one before?? (Pendandtic critique based on my recent study of the 1st world war)

I think the Hoth mat represents a fighter battle that is fought on a vertical plane (instead of horizontal), starting a few hundred meters over the snowy hill those walkers are crossing, then up up up until you see the round horizon and the stars.

You aren't fighting on a horizontal plane over the Echo Base mountains or the trenches. Those are seen far in the distance from where you are, instead of below you.

I think it's a good idea, because the fighters were mostly protecting the transports, that were basically flying straight up.

The only thing that I don't like from these planetary mats are that it is hard to explain what exactly the asteroid tokens represent.

LOVE the kooky scale and angle on the Hoth mat!

Especailly when the AT-ATs will be about the same size as the small asteroid tokens...soooo.....how does that work with perpsective?

I like my starkiller mat better, but the Hoth one has walkers on it, so might need that

Ironic, I like this starkiller map a lot more than the community one, BUT I think the battle of hoth one is is the most stupid thing I have seen whole year whole month whole day.

Is it me or did the world gets dumber in a proportional rate to getting richer? Anyway, I am getting off topic, I really don't like that they made Hoth a small planetoid with a diameter of a few kilometers. ;-)

Either way, I really prefer my kraken mats and still have a few one of those to collect ^_^

Yeah. The Hoth map is strange. Asteroids and debris are just going to look funny on it.

Start and sponsor tournaments with your mats? ;-)

All of FFG mats look different(waaaay better) IN PERSON, so I will hold my judgement on what's stupid or ugly.

I personally wanted both of these designs, so I'm OK with them.

Don't hassle the Hoth.

(but yes, this Hoth is mighty strange.)

I'll stick with the classic 4.

this would be awesome:

So glad they waited until WINTER to put out the HOTH mat, right? *Sarcasm*

Cause the last thing any of us in the North need is more snow!

im unimpressed. probably won't snag one..... may change my mind when I see it in person tho

Throwing my hat into the ring of dislike toward the inappropriately scaled Hoth mat. I have the very nice, original Death Star mat as a gift from my girlfriend, and if I wanted variety, I'd pick up the fan-made Starkiller Base.

The nitpickyness is strong with this one.

Both playmats look gorgeous. Much better than your grandma's tablecloth.

My grandma's tablecloth has that fine white lace that's perfect for Hoth battles and getting beans stuck in "that's only coming out in the clothes washer", thank you very much.

Although I do admit the Hoth mat is alright.... I still like my DS2 mat better though.

Very cool. I called the Hoth mat a while ago!

Guess I should call the Powerball numbers next!

Ground Game is this????? NOT what I was expecting. I can't even fit those AT-ATs on my Gozanti.

AT-ATs fitted to the Gozanti? Now that's got me shivering in anticipation!

In an Epic game where there are 2-3 combat zones with hyperjump links!!!
