New article up about 2 new playmates, Starkiller base and Hoth. Not sure i like either of these over the Endor or Bespin maps but it's good to have variety!

I like Star Killer base.

I may get Star Killer base to put opposite Endor and the Death Star 2...any Rebel fleet will be caught in between muahahha....

Like the other mats more. The Hoth will be fun for X-Wing but awful for Armada and Star Killer isn't even in this time period. Definitely a X-Wing themed mat set here. Good for them, they need more love.

I am fairly confident that they will never make a 3x6 mat (which I am OK with). Armada very specifically uses 3x6 because that's two x wing playmats, and all of their mats are specifically designed to fit together. After all, why make a product for one game, when you can make a product that works for two different games?

I would like a 3x6 - also for use in X-Wing epic - but it's not bothering me that they're not making them, nor am I confident I would actually buy one of they did produce it.

I'd have preferred a less whacked out scale than what is presented with the Hoth mat. That's even worse than the Bespin one. Other than being StarKiller the StarKiller one is fine.

I'll go the Hoth map, and attach the blank star field. Time frames wise, I feel the Starkiller is specifically X-Wing - if I wanted any old map to play Armada on, I'll put two Imperial assault Maps together, that'll mess with peopels heads.

They should make some kind of breakout mission for Xwing to go with the Hoth map, IMO.

No just the perspectives, but the size of the stuff on it. Either Hoth was tiny or that scale is WAY off. That is one messed up mat.

How do people like the FFG mats compared to third party mats?

I've got a 3rd party mat and it's just as good, although thinner material. I do like the FFG mats if they're not marked up or on a sale. I'm not a fan of the vinyl mats but for Armada, they're a fair way to have a full 6x3 mat.

The X-Wing forum didn't disappoint me in their derision of said products.

I have of the Deepcut Studio 6x3 mouse pad mats and I am really happy with it.

The cost is less than 2 FFG mats and you get an overall theme. Quality is just as good, same thickness, printing detail etc.

If I was going for an FFG set I would take Bespin and a plane star field.

I went with the 2 3x3 as I also play some X-wing. I don't remember where the 3rd party mat I came from but it was not the same material nor the same gauge as the FFG mats.

The X-wing or the using two 3x3 mats? It is an hour and a half drive for games of Armada while X-wing is fifteen minutes.
