The Deadly Rogue Squadron

By Beatty, in Star Wars: Armada

Just thinking of a good combo with the new toys coming up and this one seems interesting. Hera with Wedge and Luke with a Rogue Squadron in support. Hera gives Luke and Wedge "Rogue" and Rogue Squadron already has it so this formation can fly independently from its command ships. Have a GR75 hanging back with bomber support and you have an interesting formation. I can even put Luke and Wedge on single peg stand to stand out more. (Luke and Wedge seem like pilots that would like to activate late in the Squadron phase so Hera seems like a fantastic fit for them.)

What would you do?

Id add Biggs, and 1-2 more with escort, and Jan. Then, let my opponent try to kill the mix.

There will be more Squadrons and Jan is a shoe in. I was just focusing on a formation that can fly independent from the command ships. You know, when your opponent tries to focus on the Squadron Command ships only to find out there isn't one. But Biggs does look like fluffy good fun.

But any Squadron with Rogue or a passive ability like Jan and Biggs would be a good fit.

In my spare time i like to run mini squadron scenarios- the more I do so, the more I appreciate how the basic rules really do allow for a whole mini-game of strategy. It reminds me a lot of football plays where you're tying to figure out how to line up!

Anyways, the point of that was Hera is really interesting: I thinks she really shines in repositioning bombers far away from friendly ships. It allows you to have a BCC GR-75 act as its own little fleet carrier with a good amount of ship-slapping power: those extra two fighters in the mix can REALLY make for a bad day for an unescorted ship! Rogue Squadron also shines relative to the YT-2400 in this scenario due to being rogue bomber on the cheap.

In terms of the squadron scrim, IMO YT-2400's or plain x-wings, or dutch/wedge + extra squad commands tend to be a better use of points. Biggs really shines in ye olde giant furball, but I'd rather try to avoid that scenario altogether with placement/deployment.

I regard Hera as a sort of squadron sheepdog.

Mid game she finds stray B-wings that are out of position due to their slow speed (or hopefully the death of their target) and she can herd them back into the fight.

Oh yes, and my 5 year old nephew asked me an important question after watching my Rebels DVD....

"Uncle Mad Cat (for he knows me as such). Why does Hera wear underpants on her head?"
