Official Fan Petition: More epic Tournaments...Please!

By dwoodruff, in X-Wing

I can't say you are completely wrong, just very black and white. I feel like this sort of thinking is very dismissive and overly simplistic. It's not a polarizing view where on one side I don't care about epic and on the other I am so desperate for FFG to give me what I want that I quit the game.

I do play my own games of epic and have fun but it would be nice if they supported epic a bit more like providing prize support and including side tournaments at more FFG run tournaments.

None of this was ever whining about not being able to enjoy myself. It was just an idea I had to try to rally support for a cool alternate play format to spice things up. As far as "do what you want and stop waiting for a game manufacturer" goes, writing this post is "what I want" and I don't see how seeing if there are others who feel the same is just "waiting" for anyone. Competitive X wing where there are prizes (trinkets) involved is not the only thing I get out of the game but it is a fun aspect of it.

Why does FFG have to do anything about it? If you want mor Epic... Play more Epic!

If you want more Epic tourneys... host an Epic tournament at your FLGS.

It's your game... your fun... do what you want and stop waiting for a game manufacturer to officially endorse, sponsor and run what you want. The little trinkets are nice and all but... jeesh... don't let them hold your fun hostage. Unless, of course, that is what you want out of the game.

I would like to see more local and player support for Epic but I don't expect FFG to do anything about it.

Am I just wrong in my thinking here?

...sorry, forgot to add original quote

The problem with the 'Play the game the way YOU want' idea is that you can't.

Playing a game involves two people, and the only way the game even gets started is if those two people can agree on how to play. If one wants to play Epic and the other wants to play a 'real' game then neither of them gets a game unless they can find someone else to play with.

And the problem is that it's easy to find someone to play a 'real' game against because FFG promotes the **** out of it. It's much harder to find someone to play anything else with, because it's not considered to be 'real' X Wing. That's where FFG comes in, because right at the start of X Wing they decided they wanted a strong competitive scene and they came right out and said it, said what constitutes a competitive match and gave strict competitive guidelines. Which is great if you love competitive games to the exclusion of all else, but if you're like me and loathe the competitive aspect of the game then it really sucks.

It would be nice to have an OP Epic tournament at Worlds or Gencon on one of the non X-wing days. Still I would settle for local store regionals. Anything to get more data on what is good on Epic How Huge ships fair against swarms of Star Fighters and other things.

I like Epic games, but I think they need to revamp the way the games work. The kill everything that moves mode, should be only one type of game play. There needs to be more of a focus on objective based games, which could potentially speed up gameplay.
