Regionals Product Legality

By Ardaedhel, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Is there really no turnaround time between product release and legality for Regionals...?

According to the Regionals article I was able to find here--

https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2016/10/12/2016-regional-championship-prizes-may-track/

--Regionals is a Formal-tier event.

And according to the Tourney Regs:

For Relaxed and Formal events, all product is legal in North

America upon the product’s official release. For Premier events,

all product is legal in North America 11 days—typically the

second Monday—after the product’s official release. Official

dates will be updated on the Product Legality page on our

website ( https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/op/legality/ ).

This seems like an oversight. Am I wrong?

Nope.

T'was once more strict, 'tis not now.

I mean, I was advocating a Dec22 Release for Calgary Regionals for months without even knowing I was wasting my time- until last week when I triple-checked for the Seventieth Time :D

It could be that they're basically attempting to plan things a little better overall in regards to releases and Windows.... Store and Regional Championships are both Set in Stone for Date Ranges and are Store Based... So they're a little less formal.

National Championships and above, however, have Floating Date Ranges now, for the May Track... Those, because they are floating and could happen anytime in the Season, probably to coincide with Major Cons, which was their statement way back when they announced the Track System - they are having the "Fairness Protection" of the Delay to stop those - plus, they and their Distribs generally have direct oversight of Nationals.

Which, I mean, will all be fine... Provided it actually is the 22d, and not the 15th, which is two days before Houston and Omaha regionals.

Its a short adaptation time, to be sure... But its going to be a dubious advantage, of sorts, even if you do pickup and go...

I mean, really, how much practice can you get in yourself to be familiar enough with the fleet? Because the varagaraties of maneuver are so different even between Vassal and Real Life as to not provide practice as such....

And we know how much familiarity and comfort with a list and playstyle can be a boon to yourself - as much as doing something "odd" can throw an enemy off...

Its a fine line of advantage, and one that might be just too cutting edge to leave yourself unbloodied over.
