The pesudo-cloak is an electronic masking device designed to mess with another ship's sensor. There is no visual effect. The cloaked ship or vehicle does not turn visibly invisible, only sensorly lessvisible.

The base modifier says to upgrade the difficulty of all combat checks against the cloaked ship at Short range or further.

Short range?! So... beyond melee (Engaged) range? Do you think it is meant to say Close range instead?

Short range is mentioned again in the Mod Options. But I'm really thinking it is supposed to say Close range.

Yes. There is also a Short Range in planetary scale combat. Many smaller/lighter shipboard weapons are only good out to Short Range. Many ships have sensors that only reach out to Short Range.

So, yeah — this makes total sense.

Somehow I had missed there was a Close *and* a Short range in planetary scale. I've been working in my head that "Short" range in planetary scale was called "Close" range. But there is, in fact, both.
