Came across this fun scenario while playing the 'The Midnight Masks' story. My investigator was in her house, which had two clues, then played 'Drawn to the Flame' in order to acquire them. Lo and behold, the encounter card that came up was 'On Wings of Darkness'. She proceeded to fail the check and was dropped off in Rivertown. I then collected two clues from the Rivertown location instead of my home. Did I play that correctly?
'Drawn to the Flame' and 'On Wings of Darkness'
That sounds right to me since the "then" on Drawn to the Flame means you resolve the encounter draw in its entirety before completing the second effect.
Well, assuming there were still clues to gain in Rivertown, yes, you did that right. Remember, no investigator cards grab clues from the bank; you can only gain them from clues on a location.
Quite the trip for your hero!
Clues are easier to spot from the air.

Just pray you survive long enough to do something with them.
