Hidden counter immunity?

By Coldhands, in Star Wars: Armada

Correct me if im wrong, but Valen Rudor seems to be immune to counter attacks, if he has a wingman. Thats pretty cool.

Yep.

Valen is immune to any attacks made by an enemy squadron also engaged with another friendly squadron. Anything that is performed as an attack - including Snipe and Counter - must target another squadron I'd they are engaged.

However, effects that deal instant damage (Mauler, Soontir, Boba, Ten Numb etc) can still hit him without penalty.

Those auto damages were out of question. I was just thinking how my Fighter composition Will change with W5, and he is quite a fair candidate to make way into my fleet. Free counter-Killer to my Ig88? Yes please.

I really feel like Rudor and Ree will be a thing. With Counter 2, Scatter, and every shot at her obstructed, she is hard to pull down. Rudor just tags along an piles on damage while he can.

Did you not see the Cheek-arse-Grin he's Wearing?

There's also synergy with the lowly YV-666s. the YVs have a huge amount of hull for their points cost but Heavy is a big letdown on a slow anti-squadron squadron. Rudor pins foes in place like the YV-666s can't but then they can't attack him back because they're also engaging the 7HP dump trucks they need to chew through first. You can up your game a bit here too by including Bossk to force foes to punch the RAGE LIZARD.

I have come to the conclusion that Bossk is a waste of points for your squadron build. It is too easy for rebel squads throwing 3 or more blue dice to get an accuracy that makes Bossk just a too expensive YV. He dies WAY to quick for my taste! You may get one shot when he is at full strength, but you will be lucky to get a second shot with him...

Once he has that free accuracy, he really does well against imperial aces, and flotillas(especially with rhymer). i count with 6 hull, 2 braces=usually he just takes 1 damage from an attack. if you play him well, he really pays off his cost.

The way to play him is to have Ruthless Strategists and escorts.

Bossk only has one brace, not two. That is his main problem...

Interesting...use RS to get his hull value down so the accuracy kicks in....might have to try this...

Usually I fly him with rhymerball, and he has escort support. All I do to trigger his ability is to have him fire at counter squads, wich are 80% of times present.

But what if a squadron with counter decides to skip that counterattack on Bossk (as it is not mandatory)?

YV-666s with Valen is an awesome idea. That particular one hadn't occured to me.

Correct me please if Im wrong, but you can only do counter attack against someone who attacked you, so if Valen attacked an A-wing then the A-wing can't attack his wingman that is engaged with, because the A-wing was not attacked by Valen's wingman.

So where do the Counter attack end attacking?

Because the Counter Attack rule says you may attack the one who made a Non-counter attack against you.

So do the Counter Attack rule overrule the Valen rule or visa versa???

I wonder about the yv's and valen, it strikes me as very similar to the instigator/heavy debate.

There is no counter attack. It is MAY counter attack vs CANNOT

I wonder about the yv's and valen, it strikes me as very similar to the instigator/heavy debate.

It's a lot more clear cut in my mind because Valen actually exists on the table and the ghost squadrons from Instigator kind of do but kind of don't. I can't find any other reasonable way to interpret it other than "Valen holds squadrons down when it comes to movement but due to his rule, the only squadrons that can be attacked when it comes to shooting are the YV-666s."

I'm actually kind of surprised that I'm the first person who mentioned it here. It's a pretty interesting little combo and it is actually making me consider trying YV-666s again, which I never thought would happen.

I have tried it with Bossk. It is weaker than you think...

You'd need more than just Bossk. It's primarily about the YV-666s and we got derailed talking about Bossk.

I don't think it's amazeballs good so much as it's "hey this might actually work out all right and it involves YV-666s, which is not a statement I ever expected to make."

I also like Bossk for the Speed 4 you can get with him when using Vector.

My least favorite thing about the YV-666s is their heavy on a speed 2 body.

I guess Rogue at least somewhat makes up for it.

Just wait for the Decimator. Speed 3, 8 hull and counter. It has Heavy but Valen makes up for that anyway.
