if my opponent attacks with a dwarf unit, and after it's declared as an attacker i manage to kill it with say blood for the blood god and it goes to the discard pile, and then my opponent plays stand your ground, is that unit still considered to be attacking when it comes back into play?
stand your ground and attacking units

Got confirmation from Nate
If a unit is moved out of the zone it is defending, it is also removed from the combat, as units must be positioned in the attacked zone in order to defend it. (Note that if a theoretical unit had an effect like "This unit can defend from any zone," then moving it out of the attacked zone would not remove it from combat.)
The same should apply to attackers. So the dwarf that is brought back into play would no longer participate in the combat. Furthermore, it should be assumed that all cards that were in play and were for some reason or another moved to the discard pile, a player's hand or out of play, cannot "remember" in which state they were, before they left play.
Just remember that Stand the Ground has to played after the defenders are assigned to bring it back.

Why? The after attackers assigned action window is not over after blood for the blood god has been played. (It ends when no players want to do any more actions in it.)

Which is why you have to be careful when you play actions because your opponent can simply add a card like Stand Your Ground and bring back the unit your just "killed"
