Does the die have to be on the card in order to ready an exhausted support? I have a friend telling me that when you ready a card the die return from the pool and are placed on the card.
Strategic Planning on support cards
Readying does not return the dice from the pool to the card:
Dice are returned to their cards when they are resolved OR in step 2of the upkeep phase. Also note that readying exhausted cards and returning dice to them are two seperate steps in the upkeep phase which wouldn't be required if dice return automatically when the card readies.

Your friend is correct, if I'm understanding what you're asking. At the end of a round, all dice are returned to their respective cards when they are readied. They don't remain in your pool from round to round.
Step 1 of the Upkeep Phase (after everyone passes consecutively):
"Ready your exhausted cards (turn them back upright). Return all dice in your dice pool to their matching cards."
Edited by WrunnerSo if I ready BB-8 with strategic and next turn resolve it's die, I can activate it next turn?

Nah.
His friend was saying that DURING the round, if you use Strategic Planning to ready an exhausted support whose die was in the pool, it would remove the die from the pool without resolving it.
His friend was mistaken. Dice are only removed by resolving them, removing them via ability/event, or during Upkeep.
So if I ready BB-8 with strategic and next turn resolve it's die, I can activate it next turn?
Yes.
This is why I love Bala Tik.
