Crafting Rules and Books

By GKnight, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hello,

I have been perusing through the different game lines for a few weeks now and am curious...

The crafting rules, that I have found, seem to be a little spread over the different lines. Most of them seem to be in the Edge of the Empire expansion book "Special Modifications". This one has rules for brawl, melee, and ranged weapon crafting. Additionally, it also lays out how to craft droids, gadgets, and cybernetics.

Armor crafting rules are in the Force and Destiny supplement "Keeping the Peace". I do not have this one (yet), but it is my understanding that it is only armor that is delineated in this book.

Lightsaber crafting rules are in the core Force and Destiny book.

Does this cover them all?

Are there rules somewhere for crafting attachments?

What are there not, expressly, rules for crafting yet?

Thank you for your time, I appreciate your help a lot.

Yes, that is all of them. As for attachment crafting, I think the best bet is the Engineer book.

Both the Force and Destiny GM's Kit and Endless Vigil go much further in-depth than the CRB with crafting lightsabers. As for what's missing, we don't have vehicle building (or, if you will, craft crafting) yet either. Some think that it'll show up in the Age of Rebellion Engineer sourcebook, others say it might appear in an adventure module or location book, and still some say we'll never get those rules.

Yeah, the full lightsaber crafting rules are in Endless Vigil.

Thank you for the replies! I will have to find Endless Vigil soon!

I appreciate your help.

Some crafting rules I hope to see in a future F&D book would be full crafting rules for crafting Jedi Holocrons.

I find it unlikely they'd do that—it's pretty clear that they regard holocrons as major plot points rather than anything the PCs would be making.

I don't know about that, particularly when we start talking about really high level characters (i.e. Masters) who want to pass on their knowledge, as well as GMs.

I think sage or mystic book...

The Mystic book would be my guess as well.

I think we might see some mention of it in Sage or Mystic, or maybe an adventure, but it probably won't amount to much. FFG will probably suggest that it be handled narratively and with a lot of collaboration with the GM, like their advice for someone becoming a Force ghost.

Agreed. When it comes to creating some of the most powerful things in the game, FFG tends to get very hand-wavey about these sorts of things and suggests that the issue be handled narratively.

I see no reason why FFG would feel the need to create crunchy rules to allow PCs to make holocrons.

OTOH, they have surprised me in the past, and they may well do so again at some point in the future. So, I wouldn’t totally rule that out in this case. But I would be pretty surprised.

Strangely enough, in the adventure "Chronicles of the Gatekeeper" its says the Holcron can now teach them how to make one. Just doesn't have the rules for it in there.

Right. It’s obviously handled narratively. ;)

I would hope to see some rules for vehicle construction, or vehicle component construction, in the Engineer Sourcebook when it comes out. Other than that I don't expect to see a great deal else.

Building a holochron seems wildly specific. Me, I'd much rather see vehicle construction in a crafting section.

Well,, you can have both.

Personally, my head is still shoved far enough in EU era stuff, I almost hope no rules for holocron-manufacture surface; back then, it was a lost art, and even during the Clone Wars era, no living Jedi seemingly remembered how to craft these relics. Tionne actually figured it out, and that was one of her major "my point to shine!" moments in works she appeared in. When Exar Kun melted Luke's holocron, to keep the young Master from learning about him, it was a huge loss to the Academy; much of that information was stored no where else, and thus lost forever. Even sages like Yoda, back then, seemed incapable of making, or often even contributing their knowledge to, holocrons. Oh well, that's mostly just my stodgy nostalgia, sorry.

As for lightsabers, how good are the rules in Endless Vigil? How much do they add? I'm not actively running anything, yet, so I'm rolling back my tendencies to buy every book in the line, or such, but I do love lightsabers, so if they include some really good options, or more fluff to use, I might grab that book. Thanks!

I haven't used them yet, but I'm looking forward to giving them a try!
