YT-2400 Validity

By Greebwahn, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey everyone,

I've got a theory question for you guys. Why would you fly a YT-2400 instead of a YT-1300? When it comes down to points, I could put a Resistance Sympathizer out on the field for less, and his 3 dice turret is primary, so gunner/luke/baze can be triggered, and 2 crew slots is a big deal. I personally think a bigger deal than 1 extra agility. The only really solid pro is Dash's pilot ability.

Thoughts?

why fly a YT2400 - that's easy - Dash - Outrider - Mangler cannon - Lando - Smuggling compartment - Rigged cargo chute - Experimental Interface - Trick Shot = 52 points

- barrel roll action on a large base ship for the Rebel's, fly onto and over obstacles and shot through them to do more damage.

Yes Han Solo and the Falcon are fun in the film's but Dash imho is more fun on the tabletop, but I still not flown any YT 1300 yet

Pair of blue squadron T70's for the other 48 points and I call it Dash's Gamble

updated YT-1300 means leave your YT-2400 in foam or in your curio cabinet!

I don't know... I'm not sure I'd take either of the Generic pilots unless I had to... But when you stack them next to each other they aren't very far apart...

Resistance Sympathiser at 38

Wild Space Fringer with outrider title and HLC at 42 (If you drop the fringer down to a Mangler Cannon then it's virtually the same cost at only 39 points)

The extra green dice is sortof a big deal, but it's pretty much offset by the extra hitpoints on the 1300. (both ships are about equivalent durability, but I'd say the 2400 has very slightly better Crit resistance)

Which means that what it comes down to (IMO) is the extra crew slot Vs the Barrel Roll action.

So I guess it depends what you want the ship to do:

The 1300 is a solid crew platform with decent stats at a reasonable enough price, the 2400 I guess is best used as a large base blocker - use the barrel roll to park it right where the enemy is going to go. (In that case I wouldn't bother upgrading the turret, I'd just go with anti-pursuit lasers or ion projector)

OFC that analysis goes for the generics only, it's a whole different ball game for the named pilots.

My favorite build for a long time was Eaden with HLC and chewbacca (no title). A ghost craps on it and until recently the jumpmaster did too.

Miranda with a TLT, sabine, and all the bombs you can eat seems like a good wingman to me.

That's a pretty difficult question to answer once you put in the caveat of 'except Dash's ability'. First up it's probably worth saying that I've never played with or against any YT-2400 other than Dash - so perhaps there is merit in that.

But a key consideration here, is that when you are dumping that many points into the base ship (38 for the resistance sympethizer or 39 points for a WSF with outrider and mangler cannon) it tends to make sense to pay those few points more to get the higher PS pilots with their pilot abilities. (Dash is only 6 more than the WSF and you get a hell of a lot of value from that - 5 pips of PS and one of the best abilities in the game).

And once you do that and start considering that more often that not, when you compare 1300's and 2400's you are comparing fat Hans, Chewy, Reys and Dashs (at a similar price point) hat these ships fly really differently but all are very valid ships.

If you are looking for a decent build for a non-dash YT-2400, maybe a WSF with APL and Cassian Andor could be useful as a blocker (albeit much more expensive than the bumpmaster).

What I'm basically saying though it that the reason that YT-2400s (other than Dash) aren't that prevalent in the meta isnt because YT-1300s are better, but because they aren't good value compared to Dash.

Equally, I don't think you are going to see a huge number of resistance sympethizers because for 4 points extra you can have oringinal Chewy or 7 points extra for Rey.
