Your competitive TIE Striker builds

By Chief Hugh, in X-Wing

Mine is...

Duchess with title, VI, LW frame

Pure Sabacc with title, LW frame, Snap Shot for the extra die

Countdown with title and Stealth Device because he never loses it.

Doom shuttle...you read that right.

I'll get there but that looks interesting.... I'm still coming to terms with throwing Swarm Leader on Fenn Rau for a potential 7 dice range 1 attack...... that's fairly repeatable....

once again im wishing i didnt buy 3 of the new imperial small ship lol.

I see plenty of pairing uses for the striker, i cant see a valid triple. If the generic was literally ONE POINT cheaper, you could run 5 naked with Howlie and have 2pts to spare.

This may, of course, change if the unspoiled generic has an EPT and is 18/19pts.

Countdown is gonna be in my list alot just because Fenn APT abuse is really common in my area. Either via PTL or Manaroo, usually the latter. I will laugh at his 6/7 hits!

Pure Sabacc might be a good inclusion in my "glass cannons" list. 4die at any range, 5 up close, pretty elusive flight pattern. Fits right in there with Mauler Mithel, Scourge, and Backdraft in terms of "WHO DO I KILL FIRST?!?!?" issues lol

I posted this in the TIE Striker "Preview is Up" thread.

"So far my favorite idea list I've come up with from the Tie Strikers is:

Duchess (23): Adaptability (0) Lightened Frame (2), Adaptive Ailerons (0)

Pure Sabacc (22): Swarm Leader (3), Lightweight Frame (2)

Countdown (20): Twin Ion Engine MKII (1)

Omicron Group Pilot (21): General Hux (5), Collision Detector (0)

Hux just throws out his focus tokens to all 3 and gives Fanatical Devotion to Countdown. Duchess and Countdown can do evade actions to support Pure Sabacc's wrath of attack dice. My other original variation has OGP upgraded to Captain Yorr with Electronic Baffle and take Lightweight Frame off Duchess and MKII off of Countdown. The first one, Countdown is more self reliant on clearing it's stress, but can potentially use his ability twice in one turn if using the Yorr list. Then Yorr can Baffle the stress to keep it only at 1 stress so it can clear it next turn to action with Hux again.

I'm excited to try either variation."

5 Strikers - 100 Points:

[26] - Duchess (23): VI(1), Lightened Frame (2), Adaptive Ailerons (0)

[57] - Imperial Trainee (17) x 3: Lightened Frame (2), Adaptive Ailerons(0)

[17] - Imperial Trainee (17) : Adaptive Ailerons(0)

Flying a swarm of 4 strikers with adaptive ailerons will be a ton of fun. Plus a super maneuverable PS 10 ace. Can't wait.

FFG you sure know how to make money. Do me a solid and sell me a 5-for-4-Pack...

Gotta love one dude saying he bought one to many and another dude asking for a bulk discount!!

Pretty much Duchess at PS 10 as a mini ace is best... Countdown as 20pt filler... Not sure where they fit yet (but do like triple striker + doom shuttle!).

The most thought I've put towards it is: duchess + PTL + EU + title for Mario Kart Xwing!

FFG has done it again. They hate generic pilots. Anything with a generic striker is non-competitive.

All three named pilots could be useful. Obvious builds are obvious. Title is auto-include.

Countdown, twin engine mkII = 21 points

Pure Sabacc, Lightened Frame, Crackshot = 25 points

Duchess, Lightened Frame, VI = 26 points

Pick the one that fits your playstyle and list.

Hmm....

  1. Duchess, Adaptive Ailerons, Swarm Leader, Lightweight Frame
  2. Pure Sabbac, Adaptive Ailerons, Trick Shot, Lightweight Frame
  3. Countdown, Adaptive Ailerons, Hull Upgrade
  4. Captain Yorr, Electronic Baffle

Yorr lets you K-turn and Segnor with more of a will, (important given the striker has an effective minimum speed 3 in a straight run!), but also lets you use countdown's ability against a second attacker if required

To be honest, I think it's probably a squad where massed generics are worth a try. You've got a decent argument for a mob of 5 - you can take four trainees in lightweight frame strikers, and then countdown with a hull upgrade.

I've seen five cartel marauders do well, and I've enjoyed flying a mob of 6 TIE/fos - but the latter mostly falls over due to a lack of firepower; too many opponents can tank 2-dice attacks almost indefinitely. 5 strikers strikes me as akin to 5 zealous recruits or alpha squadron interceptors, but with the boost-equivalent action economy built in, and an extra hull point relative to the Interceptors.

The higher tier generic will probably be 19 points, which allows for 5 with crack shot, but I'd be concerned about unupgraded strikers popping like z-95s before they get to shoot.

A big question will be if the PS3 Scarif boys also have an elite pilot talent. I would have previously assumed no, but the Concord Dawn Veteran has an EPT as well as the concord dawn ace. 18 points with an EPT would open up a lot more options.

Duchess with title, VI and maybe frame is the only one I think I'm likely to run long-term.

Anything other than VI on Duchess? It seems like a solid pick as its cheap and makes the most of her maneuverability, but I feel like there's an EPT I'm missing that might be better.

I think you can get Outmaneuver to reliably trigger.

Trick Shot might be worth a look as well, her ability allowing you to hide on either side of a rock.

VI is soooo... drab.

Can someone confirm that Stealth Device never falls off Countdown?

The way I see it...

Duchess is the best Arc Dodging Ace

Pure Sabacc is the best use of Swarm Leader and other offensive builds.

Countdown is the best filler but he's gonna be a tricky one to keep unstressed once the dogfight starts.

You do not suffer damage due to an attack, so you do not lose SD (same as a bomb or asteroid damage).

honestly, I don't see much reason to run these different than tie fighters

i.e crackshot or nothing

apart from title ofc

Totally agree. That's why the remaining generic is make or break for this Ex-Pack. If it's got the EPT slot and costs 18 (19 max) then it'll be a viable option.

The only exceptions to this are:

Countdown for niche survivability and neutering of the power-creep abusers (Fenn/Zuckuss/etc); and

Duchess for those who are in love with the ship and want to run her at PS 8-10 or other EPT

Easy....

That depends. If you get shot when unable to use your ability (a second attacker, for example) then the stealth device goes pop just fine.

I'm not sure if you might be better with a hull upgrade or lightweight frame.

The stealth device.....I get that there are cases where you'll get the stealth device's extra die where lightened frame would not (range 3 primaries or 2-dice attacks). But are they applicable enough to justify the extra cost?

If you take fire from a twin laser turret and get 'hit' both times, that stealth device is going. A Lightweight frame keeps right on rolling for the next turn.

For the generics, I'd agree.

Given that Countdown is 20 points, the Imperial Trainee is 17 points, and there are two generics, we should be looking at one at 18 points (the 'scarif.....") and one at 19 points (The Black Squadron Scout).

Surely the black squadron guy must have an EPT - in which case 5 generics with crack shot (or 4 generics with crack shot and Howlrunner) do a passable impression of an improved TIE swarm.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Scarifs' don't have an EPT - in which case you can use 5 of them with Lightweight Frame as a mob (a bit like generic interceptors but with action free boosts and a slightly more reliably extra hit point).

Not exactly world-shaking but enough to put another option amongst the 5-off lists like 5 cartel marauders, 5 zealous recruits, or a mob of A-wings or TIE/fos

Not sure if I would use adaptive on him, since he will be stressed. However, I guess for early game positioning not to bad.

Stress on him may actually be beneficial, as it stops you from using the Title.

And honestly, while I really want to (and will) use the title, it is going to have a learning curve that I'm sure will find people slipping and bumping all over the mat.

*shrug* it's gonna take some learning, btu I don't think that must is as bad as people have implied.

Those who can fly Phantoms well (I'm still learning) will have this ship fit like a great pair of socks....
