I was facing up against a casual list the other day that included Zaertik Strom and when I fired against him with the Inquisitor at range 3 the opposing player argued that I should not add an extra die to the attack because of the Tie Advance ability as the attack was considered to occur at range 1. That got me thinking, what would happen if the Inquisitor fired at a Concord Dawn Protectorate Starfighter that had him inside its fire arc? Would that ability trigger as well? I would appreciate any feedback on the matter.
Inquisitor's and Zertik Strom doubts.
Zertik's ability only blocks Inq's f the ships are at range 1 of each other, the range of the attack is irrelevant.
The CDP question has not yet received an official answer and there are good arguments either way. It needs FAQing to be clear what the designers' intention was.
It was covered specifically at FAQ: Inquisitors ability applies only to his attack range check. Ships are not considered to be at range 1 for this attack for purposes of any abilities (even any other Inquis abilities if you somehow give him such). Only attack range check is treated as Range 1. Zertiks ability states that ships that are physically at range 1 of him don't add extra dice.
Only case when Zertik would block 3rd red die from Inqui is when Inqui would really be at range 1.

You know, except for Autothrusters, because **** consistency, right?
Honestly, the precedent is that you can't know for sure until FFG make a ruling because there is no baseline from which to compare. The Autothrusters 'clarification' implies that Zertik's ability will always cancel Inquisitor's range bonus, but we can't know if that clarification is supposed to be an amendment to the card or a benchmark for similar comparisons.

Autothrusters are worded a bit different: they work specifically during that attack only.
I see a consistency here:
-anything encapsulated purely within that attack sequence is treated as range 1
-anything that may affect this attack but is not purely within attack sequence is treated normally. Zertiks and Kanans (for example) abilities ale "global" - they check for the trigger whenever someone attacks.
Autothrusters on the other hand trigger only when AT user is defending - thats when Inquisitors ability is "on". Zertiks ability would work is it was worded this way: "Ships attacking you at range 1 cannot add its range bonus". Same thing is with Fenn Rau and Concord Dawn Protector - Fenn does not trigger from Inqui while Concord Dawn does.
FAQ states only ATTACK RANGE is changed not that the RANGE itself between the ships is temporary changed to 1. ATs check attack range - abilities check range.
Edited by VitalisIt's actually very simple, the ships retain their distance and the attack is treated as from somewhere else. Strom doesn't work because his ability asks for the range of the ship. If the ability doesn't reference the word "ship" then treat it as being range one.
The key phrase is "in arc at range X". Autothrusters triggers off of a negation thereof: "in arc beyond range X" (x being 2 in that case). The inquisitor's attacks are always treated as 'in arc at range 1' thus they turn off autothrusters. Anything which does not use the specific phrase "in arc at/beyond range X" but discusses range is talking about model to model range.
Addressing a side point, CDP states "...if the attacker is in your arc and at range 1 and you are in their arc...". The and breaks up that clause so the conditions are that the ships are in each other's arc and the models are at range 1 of each other, thus the Inquisitor does not turn on that title automatically.

I would argue the opposite, but i do see your point. Right now only agrument that makes sense in CDP discussion is RAW interpretation that you stated, while RAI CDP was clearly intended to work as ATs....
