Uh, I still won't be choosing anything because that's not the wording of BB-8. "Choose" is a specific framework term that acts as an analogue to Magic's "target." That's why the RRG uses quotation marks. Do you still have to pick another die, if able? Yes, but you aren't "choosing," so the rules regarding choosing don't apply.
You dont get a choice, the effect of the special is linear. Reroll BB-8 and a die. You reroll BB-8 and 1 die, if you literally cant reroll a different die then you have completed the text of the card to the best of your ability.
