Trip T-70s

By Torches, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Since the new toys from HotR have come out I've been noodling around with a triple T70 list. I think the combination between the new tech, pilot abilities and title makes them way, way more viable than they've been previously.

There must be more people out there trying to make these babies work so it'd be great to get some other ideas and experiences.

Here's the list:

Poe Dameron (PS8)

Push The Limit

R5P9 + Integrated Astro

Pattern Analyser

39

Snap Wexley

Veteran Instincts

BB8 + Integrated Astro

Primed Thrusters

Black One

33

Jess Pava

M9G8 + Integrated Astro

28

= 100

My thoughts:

I've only had the chance to try this out once versus the Corran/Miranda worlds build but it did pretty well. I had a previous version with Nein Nunb (instead of Snap) but I didn't find him nearly effective both on paper and on the table.

What I like is making Snap a legitimate prime target, taking some heat off of Poe early game. Obviously, I've had to make sacrifices to fit them all in - mostly Poe being the PS8 version and no Autos - but being able to pick which order they move has proved useful with the BB8, Snap's pilot ability, Black One combo. Bye bye target locks.

Jess with M9G8 has been great, adding friendly rerolls at the beginning of the game and switching the target lock over to the opponent to try and dent their offence in the late game. Flying her in close proximity to Snap also feeds her an extra reroll which makes her shooting surprisingly accurate too, especially if she needs to shift her target lock around.

It's clearly not without its problems, anything over PS8 is going to run amok on it and it lacks Autothrusters to keep serious turret lists from picking it apart but with some more testing, careful flying and focussed fire it can be a bit of a curve ball I feel.

So, what do you think? And what would you change?

Biggest problem I can see is that Snap can only trigger BB8 and his ability on a 2 or 3 Straight which kinda limits him.

True true, I guess it's more of a bonus to be able to shed two TLs in a turn rather than a mandatory. Can't really think of a better alternative apart from wanting to take bb8 and R2 astro on the same ship. That'd be sweet...

Snap works well with: Push the limit, pattern analyzer, R2 mech & integrated astro = 34 points.

When you reveal any 2 speed move, he potentially gets all the actions and no stress (focus, TL + free boost). He also gets potentially 2 actions on a red move. With a stress at the end, though. Still, very flexible and hits decently hard.

I was playing around and came up with a very similar list last night:

3X70 -- 99 Points

  • Poe Dameron (40) with Pushe the Limit, BB-8, Primed Thrusters, Black One, Autothrusters
  • "Snap" Wexley (31) with Veteran Instincts, R2 Astromech, Primed Thrusters, Integrated Astromech
  • Jess Pava (28) with M9-G8, Integrated Astromech

I'll be interested to see how it plays out.

I used snap with r5p9 and he was awesome. He is so fast with his ability he can get out of range, or into range 3 with AT and then you regen, then quickly get back into the fight. Liked him a lot with r5p9.

That sounds good, I'll have a noodle around. I still think he's a good candidate for Black One here as well.

Poe with PTL and BB8 is so fun to play with. I'll see how this list rolls too.

Interesting. I didn't think to make him a regen ship. Who would you pair him up with?

I like stay on target and targeting astromech on Snap.

Go wherever you want get a boost, TL, and focus.

I've been having some fun with these. There are so many variations and all of seem quite effective:

1. K-Buddies (100) Use Pattern Analyser and Wingman to allow Nien and Ello to Tallon Roll almost indefinitely. They're like Defenders but without all the straight lines. Even when Jess is stressed (which happens a lot), she (he?) loses little through her ability, so long as you learn how to keep them in formation.

Jess Pava (29)
T-70 X-Wing (25), R2-D6 (1), Primed Thrusters (1), Integrated Astromech (0), Wingman (2)
Nien Nunb (35)
T-70 X-Wing (29), Targeting Astromech (2), Pattern Analyzer (2), Stay on Target (2), Integrated Astromech (0)
Ello Asty (36)
T-70 X-Wing (30), R2 Astromech (1), Pattern Analyzer (2), Push the Limit (3), Integrated Astromech (0)
2. Jess/Snap/Nien (100) This version has a more mixed bag of abilities. Nien is still a K turn/Talon Roll king, while Snap has all sorts of manoeuvrability. It's a little easier to keep Jess in formation with this one, plus Black one goes off constantly. Snap uses BB-8 because his auto-boost means he and 2–3 straight and still get a direction change. Not optimal efficiency, you the opponent has little idea of where he'll end up!
Jess Pava (29)
T-70 X-Wing (25), R2-D6 (1), Primed Thrusters (1), Integrated Astromech (0), Wingman (2)
“Snap” Wexley (35)
T-70 X-Wing (28), BB-8 (2), Pattern Analyzer (2), Push the Limit (3), Integrated Astromech (0)
Nien Nunb (36)
T-70 X-Wing (29), Black One (1), Targeting Astromech (2), Pattern Analyzer (2), Stay on Target (2), Integrated Astromech (0)
3. The Arcful Dodgers (99) Probably my favorite so far. Nien Reveals a green 3 straight and activates BB-8, then uses SoT to change to whatever 3-speed gets him to into range 1 of an enemy. Snap uses R2 Astromech's greens and Pattern Analyser to manoeuvre, then Push/Boost/Barrel Roll as necessary to get in position without ever ending with stress. Jess uses AR only when she needs to K turn/Tallon Roll and already has a stress. This helps her to avoid tire-traps, stay in formation, and be a deeply aggravating blocker.
Jess Pava (27)
T-70 X-Wing (25), R2-D6 (1), Integrated Astromech (0), Adrenaline Rush (1)
“Snap” Wexley (36)
T-70 X-Wing (28), R2 Astromech (1), Pattern Analyzer (2), Push the Limit (3), Vectored Thrusters (2)
Nien Nunb (36)
T-70 X-Wing (29), Black One (1), BB-8 (2), Pattern Analyzer (2), Stay on Target (2), Integrated Astromech (0)
I've also run a regen Poe+Snap list, since Snap can again use greens for R2-D2 without loosing too much positional advantage. Arien Cracken fills the last slot as I can't quite fit a 26-point Jess.

I like stay on target and targeting astromech on Snap.

Go wherever you want get a boost, TL, and focus.

I was toying with Targeting Astro and Primed Thrusters for this list but I feel like you want the PS advantage of VI as your EPT and simply pull a K or Troll, get a TL and boost into R1 to maximise the TL with an extra dice.

I ran him like this:

"Snap" Wexley (28)

Veteran Instincts (1)

R5-P9 (3)

Pattern Analyzer (2)

Autothrusters (2)

Black One (1)

Poe Dameron (31)

Adaptability (0)

R2-D2 (4)

Pattern Analyzer (2)

Autothrusters (2)

Rookie Pilot (21)

M9-G8 (3)

Total: 100

Snap was cool, Poe was just trudging along trying to keep up. Wasn't happy with Poe. Maybe try a PTL BB8 build with Poe next time. The rookie had a Biggs effect as my opponent went after it first with that M9 droid. Didnt bother much as two regen ships are tough to deal with as the game goes on. Played against Dash and oh boy was Dash annoyed with Snap and that Black one title, since he couldnt TL Snap, and Snap just boosts to range 3 or into his range 1 bubble. One round I T-rolled, and boosted into Dash's bubble and then focused. Love pattern analyzers. Makes the T-70 fun now. Snap got down to 1HP, then was able to get away with his speed and regen a couple shields before getting back into the fight.

I've been playing with triple T70 lists since HoTR was released, it worked very well, Snap Wexley is great and Ello Asty are very unpredictable pilots, the list i've been running doesn't have AT, but Integrated does the trick.

• Ello Asty T-70 X-Wing astromech.png R4-D6 talent.png Veteran Instincts modification.png Integrated Astromech 36 points.
• Poe Dameron (PS8 Version) T-70 X-Wing astromech.png R5-P9 tech.png Pattern Analyzertalent.pngAdaptability modification.png Integrated Astromech 31 points.
• “Snap” Wexley T-70 X-Wing astromech.png BB-8 tech.png Primed Thrusters talent.png Adaptability modification.png Integrated Astromech 32 points.

And also a variation with Red Ace.

• “Red Ace” T-70 X-Wing astromech.png R3-A2 tech.png Pattern Analyzer modification.png Integrated Astromech 33 points.
• Poe Dameron (PS8 Version) T-70 X-Wing astromech.png R5-P9 tech.png Pattern Analyzertalent.pngAdaptability modification.png Integrated Astromech 31 points.
