Rex Murphy, the ultimate scavenger.

By mogwen, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

From what we know, the new investigators of the Dunwich expansion can add up to 5 zero-level cards to their deck.

So I had this idea that if I add scavenging and burglary to my Rex Murphy deck I could have multiple uses of objects like torchlight or disc of Itzamna, and if I add leather jacket it would help the survivability of Rex.

Reccuring disc of Itzmanna and barracade scream like "leave me alone while I'm investigating!", securing important locations.
He seems like very potent character and reusing items means no need to draw too much and draw your weaknesses!
And I like the possibility of something like with burglary I investigate to win 3 ressources (+1 thanks to dr Milan christopher) and since I won by two or more I take back an item from my discard pile (thanks to scavenging) and I discover 1 clue (Rex's ability)! What a cool action! biggrin.gif

The burglary combo is not really needed imo. Why not just add emergency cache to your deck?

That way you won't loose a action if you fail to investigate.

But if you want to add burglary just to pay to recycle things like disc of Itzamna you scavenge, I get it.

However, how consistent will this be?

In my expierience so far investigating with Daisy, who has +1 intellect over Rex,

I don't often get a +2 win on a location with even a mediocre shroud value & after a chaos token.

I fear you won't pull off this combo too many times above easy mode, but yes, it is cool on paper. ;)

With Daisy, you've got little reason to try for +2 in any case. Rex already has that incentive thanks to his personal reaction; Scavenging just lets him benefit further (it also lets him commit an item card to boost the test just to trigger his reaction, with the expectation of getting it back with Scavenging). Burglary is there so he can investigate low-shroud locations just to Scavenge back a crucial item (I mean, you can just do a regular investigation, but you might as well get some resources out of it); you can also use it if you expect to discover all the clues anyway between Rex and Dr Christopher's reactions.

Daisy's intellect is 5, and with +1 from a Magnifying Glass and +1 with Dr Milan Christopher, you should be beating most investigation tests by 2 or more unless you're playing on hard or greater.

Daisy can't play scavenging.

Daisy can't play scavenging.

While Rex, on the other hand...

My question is : is it a viable tactic and do you see other interactions that could be interesting like bulletproof vest and elder sign?

I'm really longing for this expansion and Rex is exactly the kind of character I want to play, even is weakness is a reccursive problem!

Daisy can't play scavenging.

I was replying to the post directly above mine that referred to Daisy's 5 intellect.

I know, sorry if my text was not that clear. I was just continuing your sentence.

Sorry if you thought I was arguing with you it wasn't what I meant!

Fair enough! :)

No particular items spring to mind, but opportunist seems useful to this deck. If you succeed well enough to trigger scavenging, you're most of the way to getting your opportunist back, too.

And I was referring to the post saying that Daisy struggles to beat an investigation check by two or more.
