Big Baby Buggy Bumpers

By Sonikgav, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Been playing around with the U-Wing and after an idea that i am BLATANTLY stealing from another post here ;) ive come up with something i wanna try but would like some opinion.

Chopper (37)

- FCS

- ABT

- Hera

- Han Solo

- Ghost Title

- Ion Projector

Zeb (18)

- Phantom Title

Blue Squadron Pathfinder (36)

- Electronic Baffle

- Extra Munitions

- Sabine Wren

- Cassian Andor

- Pivot Wing Title

- Anti Pursuit Lasers

- Cluster Mines

Total = 100

So two large ships that are looking to bump primarily with decent firepower and LOTS of of HP, with the U-Wing capable of causing a bump, then spinning around in the next turn and dropping a bomb directly onto the enemy ship. If its a large ship, a Cluster Mine has the potential to put out 7 unblockable Damage and it can do it twice per game, plus its just the 'second ship' to Chopper. Was tempted to make it Heff but tbh the points are tight and the U-Wing doesnt have many actions anyway. Maybe for the future.

Thoughts?

Hate to potentially bust this one, but I'm not sure if it works:

plan - u-wing causes a bump, then next turn reveals a 0 stop, spins 180, uses the baffle to lose the stress, and uses the action to drop the cluster mines.

The problem (i think) is: If a ship begins the activation phase touching another ship and it's maneuver doesn't actually cause it to move, isn't it still considered to be touching the other ship? As in; wouldn't you lose your action for being in base contact with another ship?

Can someone with more extensive rules knowledge answer this one for me? I'm actually not sure if I'm right or not.

(i kinda want to be wrong, it looks cool & i want it to work.)

From the evidence I found while looking into this Touching and Overlapping are not the same. It's the bump (overlap) that removes the action while you move a ship into a legal position (ie touching) and that all touching does is deny you attacks against a touching ship.

The 0 move means you remain touching but don't overlap again so you still get an action.

Hmm, those ships looks awfully familiar...

I think it should work though. Only issue is, Chopper can't shoot at what he is bumping. So, if you were planning on that, you'll need to re-evaluate. Otherwise, looks pretty solid. However, I'd either put APL on both, or Ion Projector on both. While I get that ion and stress from Chopper can be lethal, it might work better to have consistency. Otherwise it makes the U-Wing (were I to fly against this) the bigger threat; it can output a damage from bump, then 7 damage next turn, whereas Chopper can, if you bump him, do 1 stress, 1 ion. Dangerous, but if he or the U-Wing can't capitalize on it, not all that threatening.
