Ahsoka/Raymus: a question on timing

By Lochlan, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

So, let's say I have a ship with Raymus who reveals an Engineering dial and another ship nearby with Ahsoka. The first ship receives its Engineering token, but my question is can Ahsoka change the token to something else before I have to decide to keep or discard my dial? So could I change the Engineering token to a Navigate token, then discard my Engineering dial for a new Engineering token, thereby gaining two tokens in one activation?

Tricky one, let me bring the cards up.

This one may revisit an existing Combo, too. So let us look at things:

Given that we have the precedent of the RaymusTantive, in that you can Reveal, Gain the Token without Spending, Send that Token elsewhere, then Spend to GET the Token.......

I say yes. Yes you can.

Ahsoka's timing of "During the Activation" is stupidly wide open , and she is stupidly cheap .... But that's why she's both Unique and an Exhaust to use... To limit these shenanigans, because so far, the Rebels do not have the Interdictor title class upgrade to refresh her...

That is not likely the intent but Ahsoka does say "during the activation" which you would be as soon as you reveal the dial. It doesn't have a "when X" qualifier.

Reveal Engineering Dial --> Trigger Raymus --> Get Engineering token --> Trigger Ahsoka --> Discard engineering token --> Gain Navigate token --> Resolve command i.e. take engineering token or use dial.

Which is the fun part about Ahsoka.... "During the activation" is anytime during the Activation. And the Activation Starts when you Reveal the Dial... And it ends after you have Maneuvered and then place the Command Dial face up on the Ship card...

at any point during that, you can Trigger Ashoka....

It doesn't have to be Done at the start.

it doesn't have to be done at the end.

it doesn't ahve to be done at a specific point or dot point part of activation....

A Ship Activation is a long arse time to get it done.

What would be your goal? I guess I'm not catching the reason why you'd set up this combo for 9 points when you could use a Navigation Officer or something for 3 points less if you really need the token.

Because it nets you 2 Different Tokens.

Each Turn.

I mean... a nav officer doesn't let you do two different commands on the same turn, nor does it generate a spare token, nor does it give you the flexibility to gain whatever token you want off of that command...

Oh HO! Turns out I completely forgot how Raymus works, despite the picture of the card being in this very thread. Silly me.

Awesome, thanks for the replies! I couldn't think of any reason why it wouldn't work, but it just seemed too good to be true.

It is very good. But you have to consider that Ahsoka does have inherent limitations...

1) Is it distance (although a good one).

2) She is Unique.

3) She is Exhaust to Use.

So although the upgrade is Cheap, you can only use it a grand total of 6 times in a game, and you must be providing a token (somehow) for her to change, she doesn't inherently generate any.

Seems this might be a good combo for Phoenix Home. Effectively, it lets you generate the token you want for the Fleet Command every single turn without making you actually take that command every single turn.

Can Raymus and Ahsoka be on the same ship? She doesn't have the "another" keyword, and IIRC a ship is always within distance 1 to itself according to some FAQ I just can't find.

I don't see why not other than the both of them being officer upgrades and most ships not having two officer upgrade slots. I suspect that's where the Phoenix Home title comes in.

Correct.

It's not a faq entry, but rrg.
