Predator and Damaged Cockpit

By Vineheart01, in X-Wing Rules Questions

While mentioning the benefits of not being PS1-2, i realized something.

Predator: When attacking, you may reroll 1 attack die. If the defender's pilot skill is 2 or lower, you may instead reroll up to 2 attack dice.

Damaged Cockpit: Starting the round after receiving this card, treat your pilot skill as "0"

I dont think ive ever seen anyone take advantage of this. And Damaged Cockpit seems to show up quite a bit, and Predator is also quite common.

Am i wrong in assuming this works?

Yes it does. I've never actually seen the two intersect, personally. but it's a useful one to bear in mind.

Kylo abuse comes to mind

Dump PS0, your 2-3 ships with Predator now basically have TL

I don't know whether you can call spending at least 6 points to get two rerolls rather than 1 abuse...

I use Predator on ships all the time when I have Torkil Mux in my list

Torkil, Palob, and Kavil make a nasty combination (All have TLT, Kavil & Palob have Predator, Torkil has Dengar.) 6 potential TLT damage a round on a target that has been dropped to PS 0 (For 2 predator rerolls) and if they're a Unique, Torkil gets 2 rerolls as well, not to mention stripping that token from them with Palob!

Edit: More than once I've taken out triple defenders in 3 rounds of fire.

As someone that runs Predator a lot, I've had this come up in games a few times. I tried to pair Predator with Mux but I've always had trouble fitting in enough ships with EPTs to really make it worth while.

I'm curious, what do you take for the remaining points?

Kavil 24

Predator 3

TLT 6

Unhinged 1

Bomb Loadout 0

Proton Bomb 5

Torkil Mux 19

TLT 6

Dengar 3

Palob Godahli 20

Predator 3

TLT 6

Intelligence Agent (Optional) 1

Moldy Crow 3

Total: 99 (Or with IA, 100)

Its a bit tricky to fly, but between rerolls, stealing tokens, and 3 TLTs (Kavil firing his with 4 dice) it can melt most ships in a single round of fire. There is a fine line you have to walk with the range-bands, as well as with targeting priority... HWKs are squishy, so you really have to pick the most dangerous target possible and take it down asap.

An interesting list! I'll try it out Saturday night. I don't often fly scum so this will be a nice of pace for me and a surprise for my opponent.

Thanks!
