Leap Attack / Fire Breath

By Andi1066, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

What happens, if i use for example a leap attack and hit 3 heroes. I do buff the attack with 2 Overlord cards from Arsenal 2
1.) the one which makes a targeted hero test his wisdom -> for fail +2 dmg and if its a warrior +1 surge
2.) the one with +1 surge and +1 pierce if its a healer

in my example i attack a warrior, a healer and a mage with one single leap attack

now my question....does every single hero of these 3 targeted make the test on wisdom seperatly? ...since the rules state out, that its only one attack..and that i cant spent surges differently...well. what is the right scenario?

A) i get max bonuses against all heroes because i can always chose which buff/overlord card will trigger with which hero -> so attack against healer, mage and warrior is +2 dmg, +1 pierce and +2 surge against all while i am allowed to chose the low wisdom warrior for the wisdom test and the extra surge and the healer for the extra pierce

B) i get only the bonuses which i would get for each target, if it would be single target -> so against all i get +1 surge and then all test wisdom and there where they fail i get +2 dmg and in case of warrior + 1 additional surge, while i only get against healer +1 pierce

option B would lead to a scenario, where i had to spent surges differently..because there are not equally surges in case of numbers -> which is against rules i guess?

i strongly tend to scenario A...but still....not sure whats 100% correct..or maybe another solution than one of these 2?

hope you guys can help me out ! thanks in advance ! :)

Based on the title of this thread, I'd like to point out that the answers to your questions will not be the same for fire breath as leap attack since one targets all figures and one only targets a single figure and merely affects the rest.

For leap attack, since you are targeting all 3 heroes, you can play dirty fighting on the healer and mental error on the warrior. The cards will affect the entire attack (there is only one set of attack results). Option A.

For fire breath, the cards you play work the same, but the only hero you have "attacked" at the roll dice step is the hero you targeted- so even though you may include a healer in the fire breath unless he is the targeted hero the attack will not get pierce 1 (and that first hero is the only one who can test).

ahhh yeeeh...i always forget at fire breath the difference between "affected" and "targeted"

and thaanks again zaltyre for the answer ! :)

this indeed makes the arsenal 2 deck even more appealing to me ! :D

one further question came to my mind regarding this (though the situation, where its really favorable may not occur that often) : since you mentioned targeting with these cards different heroes, well..is the following scenario allowed? :

leap attack -> hit one healer and one mage -> chose to play dirty fighting on healer and a second dirty fighting on mage

in other words..the same overlord cards twice, but against different heroes for the same attack?

just not sure about the targeting point..or the triggering point? ...guess its not allowed since the trigger (after an attack roll) for both cards is the same ?!

That's correct. Two Overlord cards with the same name cannot be played on the same target in response to the same triggering condition.

Dirty fighting does not target heroes, the target is the monster performing the Leap attack here.

Exactly. The trigger is "when a monster attacks a hero, after rolling dice". There has only been one instance of monster attacking hero, one roll of attack pool. Therefore, only one dirty fighting may be played.
