Possible League?

By ianediger, in Star Wars: Armada

Just here to gauge community interest in a Vassal league. Hopefully, it would run between Vassal World Championships.

Stuff that's still up in the air:

Will there be a league?

What will the structure be?

Any limitations on type/amount of lists?

Again, nothing here is binding, just gauging interest before I dive into particulars.

What commitment? How often would games be?

I am considering setting up a fortnightly europe vassal corrillean conflict club. Seems more managable.

And that's proof right there you are a European. I've never heard an American say "fortnight", nor use the word in writing, though Brits and other Continentals do it all the time.

To the actual point of the thread, I could be interested, both in a generic league and in a Corellian Conflict-centered one. Once that is out, I have full faith in this community to scale it up as much as possible very quickly. What precendents/ideas did you have in mind Ianediger?

Not really sure, yet.

As to Gink, games would be no less than once per month, no more than once per week.

It started as me trying to make an Armada version of HOTAC, but being defeated by trying to create the AI. (not that I'm still trying...)

Games would be standard tourney format, with a possible elimination playoff at the end of the league season.

The only problem I see is if someone brings a sub-optimal list, and then gets stuck with it for the rest of the season.

i think new lists each match, submitted blind the day before.

maybe equal rebel and imperial factions, or nfl style regional conferences to make timezones less of a pain.

Do you say two weekly? thats not a thing.

No, no more than once a week. Even that is a bit much, so fortnightly is probably better.

I never thought of doing conferences based on time zones, that's actually a great idea.

I'm interested and agree that a game a fortnight would be best. It would be interesting to get a Corellian Conflict league together somehow although I'm not sure how that would work at this point. I don't know if organizing by timezones is best versus by a preferred playing time. I'm on the west coast of the US and usually prefer playing in the morning which lines up with evening for folks in Europe.

A league would be interesting, but I'm probably going to have my "casual" vassal games taken up by a Corellian Campaign once it's released. Though maybe I could get some league time in.

"Fortnight"

I just wanted to come in and say that in this thread.

In all seriousness, I would be interested, but I am not yet familiar with Vassal.

Just throwing this out there, I would actually also love to see "classes" or "lectures" of games. Two expert players squaring off and explaining their reasoning, for those of us (*waves*) who are just bad at the game, don't have anyone to play in person, and don't feel confident enough to put themselves out there in a proper game yet.

I will play any and all leagues! !

FoaS, I'll play you anytime I'm available. Anyone on this forum can tell you I'm pretty bad, so there is no pressure there....lol. The best way to learn this game is to jump in and push plastic and roll dice. No one (except Ard, and that's only if you bring the wrong ship cards... :D ) will yell at you in vassal games for mistakes, so it's pretty laid back.

Oh, and I'd play in league play.....

To be more transparent, its the potential of playing aussies or mst players that bothers me. Not their fault, but our timezones dont gell nicely with my work hours.
