Vector vs Independence

By Sybreed, in Star Wars: Armada

Actually vector can possibly push 4 with expanded hangar bays!

But four what getting the bonus?

Possibly 4 non heavy squadrons? Or a combination of some to push past those with heavy? Who knows. Whatever options you want at the time.

But I mean, pushing the envelope and all... Going from Speed 4 to Speed 5 is not a great addition - it is an addition, to be sure, on par with getting Speed 4 instead of Speed 3 out of Indy... Half the Squadrons you want to launch for an Alpha Strike at Speed 5... Are already Speed 5... And flinging TIE Fighters a way distance is just asking for them to be 3-hull-picked off...

In short.

Neither are popular.

But I still see Indy around almost 10:1 in comparison to Vector.

I was just merely adding the point that Vector can push 4 if it wanted to thats all.

But since we're looking at utility pushing 3 firesprays to keep up with Rhymer as the forth seems like a good idea.

You could possibly want to Vector squadrons with Chiraneu like we used to in wave 1 with Corruptor.

I can speak to Indy, because I've run it before.

As Reinholt suggests, you really have to build directly to it. For me, that means B-wings, and while others have pointed out that FCT is awesome, there's nothing that says you can't stack the two together. So an FCT followed by a FC and an Independence move might very well set up a great shot in the next round. The value is additive, not conflicting. The other two titles require the same amount of set up in your build. Home One requires that you're specifically taking units that can benefit from the accuracy generation. Defiance definitely encourages you to take a number of activations so that you can be sure to activate Defiance last. All of them require a fairly specific mindset when you build your list.

As for performance of Indy and the MC80 more generally, I've seen plenty of builds with MC80s place well. I took Indy to a tournament in San Antonio in early September and won it. Sweeping categorical statements about upgrades and ship categories have a high probability of being wrong. By any stretch, MC80s are doing fine according to the regional statistics we've seen so far.

Vector is interesting. I wonder if it gets caught in the position of only really making a difference every 3rd game or so, which is not enough to catch hold of our memories. I have a suspicion that a very strong and calculating player could probably take the upgrade and get it to make exactly the difference it needed to endure the long haul of a tournament.

I always compared corruptor to liberty

But four what getting the bonus?

Speed 4 could potentially be the difference between your Firesprays (Rhymer enabled) getting anti-ship shots turn one or, well, not.

Although in our glorious new fighter meta that can also mean they get pounced on by enemy fighters on the first turn. Oh well.

I figure.

But I still have a hard time believing the best thing for Vector is to completely invalidate Rogue... >.>

Perhaps I'm a little hard-headed that way.

Well, it's not completely invalidating it, is all. You'd use Vector for that turn one strike, and then probably don't need Vector for the Firesprays again. Obviously subject to changing conditions and all. Which frees it up to push Dengar/Mauler/Whoever around.

Does it really matter anymore?

It matters until I have my Speed 5 B-Wings. Dammit.

Please do bring them at enemy fighter range;)

Just because B-wings are such amazing bombers, so many people forget that they're actually pretty good fighters too, apart from their speed...
