Droid who doesnt know he is a Droid.

Brian, I doubt you're going to find this, but if you do, go away.

Now, to the topic at hand. I haven't go to in depth with him yet, but his general idea is that he is a Droid, that completely believes he is sentient. He is a human, just with a heavily modified body. I wanted to push this a bit more, and like the idea of him being a http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Shard. I haven't brought the idea up with him yet, and will soon have a more in-depth conversation with him about any history ideas he has for his PC. I was hoping for some advice, though.

My current idea is that he is a Shard hosted in a robotic body, allowing him to easily interact with other more common life forms. He sustained an injury and now has amnesia, causing him to forget what he really is. Have other GM's had any similar situations? Both in star wars and other systems, with mystery histories? what was some problems or things you wish you had down better? Players who had done this before? Things you wanted to be done or wish had been done differently?

My group toyed with having a shard in a human replica droid but we ended up scrapping that in favor of a different game. Several interesting questions could be roleplayed out using this idea. I had always wished we had visited that idea to see how it played out. At any rate, a question to pose to the player might be: how will the droid feel once its true nature is revealed?

As far as the mystery history goes: we played a Shadowrun campaign where one of my players had been brain-washed and was recovering her memories. One thing I wish I had done was discuss with the player what her expectations were and some of the things she would have liked for that character's past. I feel like if I had done that, she would have enjoyed playing that character better.

I considered this for a BX commando droid PC in the past, where processor damage forces any discrepancies into the back of his mind. He would never question why he never had to eat, sleep, etc., or why he never removed his armor.

Had no clue about human replica droids!!!! totally going to run that past him as something that is available. I live with the player, so not going to be hard to get more info from him. Thank you very much for input from shadowrun as well JorArns

Considering an HRD is about 9 million credits, if the other PCs ever found out there was one in their midst they should try to sell it and retire to live like kings.

Makes me think of Nichos Marr.

I expect to see more questions like this with West World gaining popularity.

So i had the discussion with player about his ideas and for it, and am blending them together. He liked the idea of him being an AI experiment (i typically play under the assumption that droids are VI's[virtual intelligence's] with complex personality matrixes.) So since I have another player modeling Rocket Raccoon; they are both experiments of the same shadow organization within the Empire. Thank you for the inputs and comments y'all have given.

I really wish WestWorld had just gone with the idea of malfunctioning, semi-sentient androids going on a killing spree rather than engaging in philosophical debates on life as we know it. I mean, we already have...

Blade Runner.

The Machine.

Automata.

Ex Machina.

Galaxina.

The BBC's Humans.

Data of TNG.

The Cylons of reimagined BSG.

Guri of Shadows of the Empire.

...and the list goes on and on.

I REALLY wanted to like WestWorld (I mean, I love the original film), but the series is just too **** derivative. I'm now watching on autopilot.

You might get some ideas from the SNES Shadowrun game. The main character suffered from amnesia and you had to piece together what was going on. It's been a long time since I played it though so that's all I can remember, other than there being a lot of random people trying to kill you.

It's not my intention to hijack this thread. So I'll just say this one response and let it be.

You have a good point. My only beef is that machines go crazy and kill everyone is just as derivative and would for a lousy tv series unless they went the Walking Dead rout (which limits the staying power of the show methinks). And that would be just as derivative.
