Announcing: Custom Card League Season 2

Any ship can regenerate shields. It's not something hard to do, actually (it was one of the first things learned by new pilots).

About the source material, there is one reference, actually:

"In X-wing Alliance, the Avenger's speed is significantly toned down. Its maximum shield level is reduced to below that of an X-wing, though it regenerates faster. The TIE Defender's attributes were also similarly toned down for balance issues." (end of this page)

But i already said that. I also said that Astromechs speed up that process dramatically, though. From playing those games, it can take a solid minute or two to recover shields from 0 to 100% if you redirect completely to shield power. And, again, turns in X-Wing are roughly 3-4 seconds. TIE Avengers never recovered shields that quickly.

Still, ultimately the point here is that the faction known for regen can't spam it on generics, yet here you can for some reason. Additionally, this regen is more effective at doing what regen is supposed to do, which is running away quickly and recovering shields, because you have 2 other identical ships you can sub in while it gets shields back, then rinse and repeat, because there is no limit on the speed of the maneuver you can make. The fastest maneuver Corran can make to get out of dodge and still regen is a 3 straight. With these it's a 5 straight. And, in all honesty, just because it's a 3/8 chance doesn't really mean it's not effective, since you can just hang out and turn in circles until you're fully regen'd then rush back in. Regular regen is annoying as-is, this takes that to a whole more stupid level. I think this is super sketchy game design. You're doing it because "Why not?" not because of any specific game design reason. If you can prove that the TIE Avenger, and the Imperial faction as a whole needs regen in the fashion you've presented it, and have that stand up to criticism, then i'll reconsider my stance.

Not related to the discussion, but I found this card so cute, I wanted to share with you guys: (maybe to feature in a future Scum expansion)

x_wing_miniatures__custom_upgrade_by_oda

or this?

Updated my Champions of the Empire ace expansion. Almost done now. Feedback is appreciated!

EDIT: I think it's ready for submission.

Just started some research for my last entry: "Opposing Suns", a Scum "ace" pack (YT-1300 + Kihraxz).

Here are some thoughts:

YT-1300 pilots:

  • Ace Azzameen
  • Aeron Azzameen
  • Twin Suns Pilot (generic, ORS-like)
  • ?

YT-1300 crew:

  • Galin Azzameen
  • Emon Azzameen
  • MK-09

titles:

  • Sabra
  • Selu

upgrades:

  • Escape Pod (a crew card from a destroyed ship goes to other)
  • Bacta Tank (some sort of immunity to Pilot crits)
  • Family Matters (gives bonus to all Azzameen pilots - no idea what type of upgrade, though)
  • Contraband (gives ordinance tokens to illicit upgrades)

***

Kihraxz pilots:

  • Dal Perhi
  • Eyma
  • K'Armyn Viraxo?
  • Garyn Raider? (generic)
  • Ghrag Mercenary? (generic)
  • Viraxo Pilot (generic)

title:

  • Vaksai (gives boost and -maybe- system slot)

upgrades:

  • stuff related to how the Kihraxz is customizable.
  • several illicit upgrades (ideas are welcome)

Can't do aeron since he was in season 1.

And does it count as an aces pack if it's moving a sihp to a faction that didn't have it before? (Not that I think it's necessarily an issue, just...not sure how that works with creation rules)

Not he, she is a girl. ;)

But didn't her ship left the CCL rooster?

-Submissions may not include cards or ships that were featured in the first season’s Vassal Extension. You may find a list of those cards HERE, or you can look at them in VanderLegion's Aurora Squad Builder app. Pilots featured in the first season extension may be submitted in season two, so long as they are flying different ships than they were flying in season one.

VL's right. Anything that made it into the final CCL extension can't be an entry this season. That's to make sure that we get new entries each season.

It's the same thing blocking me from putting my SV Talonbane Cobra in my starviper aces pack :(

Oh well... I will do her card but leave it out of the submission...

The Skipray's coming along, but wanted to run this by you guys. What do y'all think about the Skipray's primaries having and ion effect?

Depends how it's implemented. If it's just a normal primary shot that also does ion tokens I don't love it. The route I went for one of my starviper titles lets you cancel all results to do the normal 1 damage + ion effect, so on a good roll you have to decide between extra damage or ion

Ok. I was trying to figure out how to do it since ion cannons are the Skipray's primary weapon.

You could do a built in ion cannon somehow. Maybe it still counts as a primary weapon (bonus at range 1, defense bonus at range 3) but only does one damage and ion token like an ion cannon would. Or maybe a normal primary but a title that converts it to the above ion instead

You could give the skipray an auto-include upgrade ala alliance refit that gives an ion property to the main gun.

for example:

Title: Skipray blastboat GAT-12

When you perform a primary weapon attack that hits, assign the defender one ion token.

That's exactly the "add an ion token to your normal attack" that I'd rather not see. Gets rather powerful if you can do several damage AND ion

If its just attack 2 it'll be fine. We already have 2 damage ions on Dace and ion torpedos throw 4 dice plus the ion token area effect.

To be fair, ion torps are a single (or two time) use you pay quite a few points for, not every attack, and face takes a stress to do the extra damage.

That's why I suggested just 2 dice, it'll be the least reliable ion weapon that maybe does 1 extra damage.

I think I know what I'm going to do. Have three attack, but title will read "After preforming a primary weeaons attack, you may cancel one dice result. If you do, the defender revives one ion token."

Concerning a Scum Azzameen, doest it sidestep that quote by being "same pilot, different faction, different plot ability?"

Actually that's right. We can't have a Rebel Aeron azzameen this season. I'd forgotten that AA was rebel last season. This is actually fine.

Hah, I forgot that she was rebel last season as well....whoops :)

i'm curious about one thing :
If someone made a partisan's Xwing (T-65) as a Scum ship (with Saw Guerrera & his band). The ship count as a new ship or count as an ace pack ? (It's the same question for the minning Guild TIE and Scum YT series)
