Dial up a squadron command, move the ships out of the field. Fire. Move the field to protect the ships. Profit.
Best use for Jamming Fields?
I just want to throw out there that in today's squad-heavy environment, I don't think bombers driving in and ignoring enemy fighters (even with jamming fields) is a viable tactic anymore. And as people shift builds to incorporate greater antisquad capabilities it won't be viable anytime soon.
It's why I evolved my Worlds list from Y-heavy to more of a balanced X and Y list, when I realized that squadrons were becoming a serious enough threat that ignoring them was no longer viable.
Yeah, but isn't this why you didn't win worlds?
Shooting fighters is inefficient, so finding a way to avoid doing so should surely be the aim?
Well you certainly have a point on the not winning thing. ![]()
To elaborate on my point, it's not that switching to x's instead of y's was a better decision. In fact it probably hurt me a bit due to the loss of durability and my jamming fields reducing my y's to a single offensive die. But if you look at JJ's list even though it was bomber-heavy, it was still fitted out so his y-wings were able to engage in (and win) squadron battles.
Shooting fighters still gets you points - I won the first round game by killing my opponents 10 X-wings. ![]()
The best time I have got them to work was with two GR75 combat retros, one with jamming field and toryn far, supporting 4 xwings. I faced 6 A wings (and their flotillas).
The jamming field basically costs them 2 dice to your one, so you are ahead in that regard and you have better hull. Toryn and the GR75s flak coverage (yes I know she is wasted on her own, but against 6 sqns even an unboosted blue is pretty good) meant I cleaned up the A wings with plenty of hull left and could then go on to start bombing.
jamming fields look like an incredible counter to snipe, specifically Ewings since they drop down to 2 dice and since flight controllers dont give them extra dice on the snipe they get crippled

Any why doesn't Flight Controllers work on snipe?

A few of us went over this when CC spoiled the squads. Our word is not fact, but is supported by the current FAQ and RRG that FC will boost Snipe.
Jamming field works if all you intend to do is jam up opposing fighters. It helps your fighters live just a little longer and sometimes all you need is one more turn (and you counter intel with clever positioning). The problems is jamming field doesn't give you a choice whether you just want to stall the enemy fighters or go for the kill.
I didn't think we came to a conclusion on it... For Howlrunner, yes. But not Flight Controllers....
... I'm getting Old, I guess.

I thought it was likely FC will benefit Snipe and Howlrunner is 100% but we stopped discussing because there really wasn't much to say until CC is released. I know there are people on both sides.
Best use for Jamming Fields?
Strawberry Jamming Fields: A little cream cheese on an English Muffin. This is delicious.
Apricot Jamming Fields: Pair it with Gorgonzola cheese and use it as a spread.
Grape Jamming Fields: Peanut butter of course!
Flotilla Jamming Fields: I'm thinking this is okay for TIE fighter spam but i'd save the two points or swap it over to Comms Net.
I watched a playthrough that was posted here the other day, and the rebel player used two flotillas, each with Jamming Fields. His logic is he wanted to keep his fighter screen alive, which consisted of X-Wings and A-Wings.
I noticed during the game that the JF's ended up hurting him a lot more than helping him, as his A-Wings each lost a counter die and his X-Wings didn't have the punch to finish off TIE fighters.
The only consideration I can think of is perhaps shielding bombers in on an attack run.
Am I missing something here? What do you guys use them for?
I was thinking about using JF yesterday.
I think a good way to reap the benefits of JF would be to use flight controllers to offset your penalty. Assuming your opponent does not have FC within range, then jamming fields does not adversely affect your squads, and only your opponent's.

No mention of giving Darth Helmet the Raspberry.
1/10
We don't talk about the Raspberry anymore...

But this makes it an 8pt upgrade, which I think may be an overpay. Especially if you escape the range of your FC carrier or need to dial up something other than squad, which will mean that you are paying 8 points to have it hurt you just as much as it helps.
My issue is timing all the pieces together. .. for me I want to activate my squads with an is for 6 activations. .. but if I do that I leave a window open where my squads aren't in the field. ... conversely I could activate them with a flotilla for four activations, still, without nav commands how am I going to get that flotilla in position to jam afterwards... seems like a lot to juggle and I'm not sure the reward is there. ..shielding my tie fighters from return fire is sexy, but the one time it obstructs one of my own attacks I'm going to rip it up on the spot!
Here's the conundrum: If you use the JF Flotilla to protect your bombers, you put that flotilla very close to the enemy's ships...
Make it a Suppressor with Jamming Field. It double wants to be there.
