Availability in the UK

By Stumblefish, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey all,

Just wanted to put this to the hive mind. I personally have noticed over the last 6 months to a year it is becoming progressively to harder to get hold of the books from all lines as they're released. I always track them down in the end but these days I have to ring around about 5 or 6 shops before i find a shop holding a copy, many citing they're supplier being unable to meet their order requests. It used to be a just quick order from Amazon and if that was a bust from my favourite FLGS (It is no longer local so it is mail order). Now this may just be down to bad luck or FLGS having trouble with their supplier and Amazon being as much of a tool as it usually is with RPG's but on the other hand it might not be. I just wanted to know if any other board members outside the US have been noticing a similar trend or am i just unlucky?

I really do hope it's just me. It'll put my mind at ease.

I find Amazon extremely unreliable for most FFG products to be honest, the books especially so. I generally get mine from Gameslore or Book Depository. A good rule of thumb I follow is that if I see a book I'm likely to want, I order it (preferably pre-order it) as soon as possible around launch. After the first shipments sell out, it's a real gamble as to what or if you can find the books anywhere.

But don't worry, with Asmodee in the mix supply will be on a level playing field with the US... ah wait...

In Blighty the books are harder to find 2-3 weeks after release. IMAO I thinks It's a marketing ploy - set up demand first then supply TO YOUR DOMESTIC MARKET FIRST (the USA)- then send JUST ENOUGH copies internationally... I can always find unsold copies on Amazon USA or EbayUS

but in FFG's defence it's a better strategy - you don't have unsold books on shelves ( or in the case of the 12" Leia doll - sorry, ACTION FIGURE & D&D Fiasco Edition sitting in landfills or warehouses)

For the UK it's a case of being on the ball and preordering or being anallyretentive and checking A****** or E*** every day coming up to releases. I preordered Fly C, SpecMods, KeepTPeace, SavageS, NexusoPow, EndlessVag,...

PREORDER OR DIE or wait ages for reprints and disappointment.

Thanks for providing some context. So in essence shipping wise supplies to the UK are far from ideal but it's not the end of the world, and if it helps FFG/Asmodee stay afloat and churning out the remaining career books and a few more setting books i'll grudgingly settle for it, I'm enough of a forum lurker to know when these things should be surfacing. Got burned by a pre-order where the shop never received any stock of the item before supplier ran out so I'll just carry on with the furious googling of game shops around release time. It's still better than the old days before the interent when things just turned up without warning, or didn't at all, and occasionally companies would disappear without warning or any real explanation.

I'm having the same problem... I ordered 3 decks of adversary cards just over a month ago & have been told that the shop concerned can't get hold of them from the UK distributor.

I've been checking FFG's "Upcoming" section of their website & they're not showing as out of stock, on the boat or any of their other statuses. I've emailed FFG this week to see what the deal is so I'll post the response when I get it if people are interested.

As for Amazon... I was after a copy of Nexus of Power, there was one copy available on there for weeks whilst we were waiting for the reprint & the cost.... OVER 100 QUID!!! Like what, really??? I mean I know about the rules of supply & demand but that is just madness!!!

So far as I know, all cards are “print on demand”, which means they never go out of print and never go out of stock.

So, if their distributor can’t get them, then I would say that would be the fault of the distributor and maybe they should get a different one. Or maybe you should get a different FLGS.

Remember that some of the places that sell through Amazon don’t actually have stock of the item they’re claiming to be selling. They’re putting a price up there on spec, under the assumption that they can buy the item from someone else at a lower price, if anyone decides to take them up on that offer.

Only, some of those places also buy from other Amazon sellers who do the same thing, so you get price spirals that can go to literally thousands and millions of dollars.

It gets really silly sometimes when these programmatic sellers start getting into the mix.

gamesquest.co.uk have always done me square.

The items are not always listed on their site, but I emailed about No Disintegrations and ive been told they WILL be getting it.

Nigel there has sorted me out with all 6 NPC decks, and a couple of books, AND price matched on one occasion (With another website) too. (And some of the second set of NPC cards were not on his website).

I would definitely drop him a line.

gameslore.co.uk is another good one

Elementgames.co.uk have No Disintegrations listed.

firestormgames.co.uk say they can get most things, but that can be more a case of "preorder.. as soon as we get it, you get it" from what I got after ringing them.

usually I do a google shopping search, and come up with the odd ones that stock it.

Push comes to shove, look at EU shops, they dont tend to come up in Google.co.uk searches. Most will ship international and charge the same, but you will need to pay a charge for currency conversion (not much). I got Nexus of Power that way.... list price, low shipping, couple quid conversion charge.... Worth It. given the ONLY uk result was £70 on Ebay.

It's the sequel to 'Special Modifications'. :)

On topic, I'm a Brit, and the books are as rare as Force-sensitive wookiees in canon.

Luckily, I'm female and so I get my copies early and for free! But I'm sure if you ask your friendly gamer shops they will put one aside for you, even if you have to pay them money. (Unless you're also female, in which case smiling and being knowledgeable about geeky stuff will probably get them to give you stuff for free...)

(* Disclaimer: I run games and tables and stuff for them, which is why I get free stuff :) )

I get my books from Leisure Games. Never let me down yet.

It seems like FFG is sending them separately to their distributors, which have to pay for shipping, which makes the card a loss for them. So they usually wait until they get enough pre-orders before they even consider ordering them from FFG. Which again makes them out of stock always as you always have to pre-order them. If your store tells you next that at best you wait 6 months before you get them …

… you order them from FFG directly and pay about two times as much because shipping cost, but all that money goes directly to FFG. Why they can't at least deliver the cards to their own subsidiary in the UK as part of regular delivers is beyond me. I guess because regular deliveries come out of china, while the cards get printed directly at FFG in the USA.

So basically the price from FFG does not cover the cost for everyone, but FFG because FFG itself is the only one allowed to charge for shipping. Just order the cards from FFG directly, pay the fair price, arrange at best for a collective order yourself and deal with the shipping cost. ^-^

You know what I realise from this thread? That there's a lot more of my fellow Brits on these forums than I thought.

Weedles do tend to hide in plain sight. :)

Another Brit here and I've never had any problem finding the books . . . until Endless Vigil which I am still trying to acquire.

I have give up on that already. Heck I am still waiting for forged in battle. I assume that one is sold out already before it reached the local distributor ^-^

The UK one is still one of the better ones or FFG just does not like money :)

I actually managed you get hold of that one... Still want my adversary decks tho :(

I think I got lucky with Special Modifications, it showed up twice on Wordery or Book Depository, (I dont remember which), the first time I ordered it, they cancelled my order, and a few days later it showed up again, so I took a punt, and go it (And VERY glad I did,as it seems it's one of the harder books to get).

Forged In Battle I didnt have an issue getting.

Suns of Fortune I think I struggled with, but after bemoaning this on a Facebook Group the lovely Keith Kappel said he had a couple copies left, and very kindly signed it, and posted it to me while he was in London for Celebrations (YEAAAAA!!).

Nexus of Power proved difficult, but I got that eventually from overseas.

I have no had, to my recollection, any major issues getting the rest, but some did take some trawling and out of the way websites for small shops to get, but nothing too troublesome.

I am however taking precautions with No Disintegrations, as that book I expect to be a in high demand.
