U-wing question...

By Wayne Argabright, in X-Wing

with the variable stat line why would you want to fly it with the wings forward in the landing mode? is there some kind of advantage? also does this foretell a variable stat card for the X-wing? ( looked through the 15 page U-wing post and didn't see anything on the variable stats..)

Maybe cause you want to do "Kturn"?

so it's meant to be a blocker, it's just perfectly designed for it. So once you're in there blocking sweeping the wings forward to be able to 0kturn is frankly amazing. Especially with cassian andor who Will not only allow you to look at an opponents dial, but guess a move that won't be blocked by your stop and then change your move in answer.

Exactly. If you plan to do an "end around" move next turn, you need to be in landing mode. Which has the downside that you therefore need to switch the card over, reducing your agility.

If you think that banks and turns are going to be enough, then no, you'd never move the wings, because a free point of agility is awesome.

That zero speed k turn is going to be tricky it'll be pretty obvious when your going to want to use it.

Still at least it can turn around unlike the lambda.

Remember how hard the Lambda Shuttle is to turn around? Well, this lets you do a 180 right where you are. That's really good. You can probably do it on a turn when you expect your opponents to zip past you and you just want to bump one of them. Flip the wings and run into the midst of them. Most will fly past or bump into you and not get a shot.

ok totally missed that.. thanks

now how about a card that bumps the X-wing up to 3 agility when S-foils are closed... but you cant attack when they are closed...

eh makes no sense to disable the attacks, makes more sense to disallow turns and kturns while closed.

Xwing sfoils closed is a high speed tactic, they dont turn as much in that mode.

I'm going to take the bait on the "X-wing fix!!" portion of the thread.

What it S-foils closed increased your agility by, say, two, disabled your primary weapon, and gave you an extra torpedo slot? The idea being that you buff your agility by closing the wings and shutting down the wing tip cannons, but you can still fire torps out the nose. Add the extra torp slot to be more in keeping with the lore and provide a limited use trade off for loss of primary. Suddenly Rookies are alpha strikers!

True, but you can always turn the wings early if you're not getting shot at. Or turn it just to fake your opponent out.

Yup, pulling a double-bluff will be useful because otherwise all you are doing is telegraphing a turn ahead what you plan to do. Mind you, some ships work well enough with predictable dials (Defenders). If you have Biggs nearby, he makes the reduced agility a non-issue. ;)

Unless they are packing ordnance.

Wonder what generic U wings cost.

23pts. we know this from the sabine's tie reveal.

I had loads of fun with Jumpmaster block lists.. wonder if 3 wings can be flown and equipped in 100 point lists.

Edit - Just saw you comment thanks Vine. Fun Times to be had!
