Something I've just noticed...

By Bertolac, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I've only just clocked this, but even though the Troll-Feller Strike action isn't restricted to slayers, it's far more useful for Dwarfs as it only works if outnumbered or engaged with a physically larger enemy. To my reckoning, that means that for a Dwarf it works against everything from ToA except Boars (possibly), Goblins, Snotlings, Imps and some Skaven (depending on your interpretation of them - and who will usually outnumber you). It just isn't as versatile for Humans and Elves.

A sneaky bit of game design. I like it.

Are there any other little things like this that you've noticed and liked?

Yep, noticed this during the demo and noted that for a human, they may have only been able to use it against the Wargor, whereas the Troll Slayer got to use it against pretty much everything. It's also better results on the Reckless side, which favors the Troll Slayer's default stance.

I suppose not restricting it, but making it have greater synergy with the Troll-Slayer career is part of V£'s 'just say YES' attitude. Although I don't have the Toolkit yet I'd imagine the controversial careers like Swordmaster and Wardancer are thesame with their actions - other's can take them, but they won't get as much benefit.

The other useful side to this approach it that it means you don't have to have a Slayer in the party to get use out of the card - so it reduces the amount of complaining about paying for things you won't use.

Nice observation!!

Its somewhat inclined in the name of the ability and as I reckon it, the Dwarfs are really classed as the same "size". They are not as tall, but more massive. Dwarfs have always been medium, as Humans and Elfs, but Halflings Small, as they not only short but have a build that is comparable to their hight.

So I do believe its a bonus against Warboss/Trolls/Ogre sized opponents: As in Trollfeller Strike. Thats more tuned toward Slayers and the card it self even though others could, with a very good ingame explanation of why they have learned that, as an ability.

I don't think a trollslayer would use his trollfeller strike against puny bandits, beastman, orcs, skaven, and so on. It would be a blasphemy, just like wearing armour. :)

Alternatively, it's a massive roundhouse sweep that's good for taking the leg out of someone bigger than you (or lashing out in a crowd) and so the requirement means taller as it doesn't work if you have to bend down to hit the legs. gran_risa.gif

All the card says is 'physically larger' and the name 'Dwarf' is somewhat inclined toward the idea that they are smaller that the 'standard'; humans. and indeed, the rulebook describes them as 'four and a half feet of solid muscle'. There are no size groupings (small, medium, large) in this game, apart from the standups (which is suppose you could use - but that means Wargors, Warbosses and Chaos Warriors are no longer eligible targets). I suppose it's just open to personal interpretation.
