What to do when not enough dice?

By aphillippe, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

I just finished playing s mission as imperial player and the following scenario came up. Diala has a basic weapon with two green dice in the attack pool. Diala becomes focussed, then declares an attack. Diala should add a green die to the attack pool. But there are only two green die in the core box. What should we do in this situation?

I argue that reading the rules literally, the player cannot add a green die to the attack pool, as there is not a green die available to add to the attack pool. So the attack should continue with two green dice.

The rebel players argued that dice rolls should be seen as fungible and one of the green dice can simply be rolled again.

However I feel that the rebel players conclusion can only be arrived at by making assumptions/interpretations where my argument is a literal reading of the rules/instructions.

In the end I conceded and we played their interpretation but some clarity would be appreciated. Thanks n

The component limitations section on page 8 in the RRG clearly addresses this:

“If players are required to roll more dice than those included

in the game, they should record the current result, reroll the

needed dice, and combine the results. This does not count

as a reroll.”

It's worth picking up the extra dice pack.

Or the app (that covers a bunch (all?) of the Fantasy Flight games).
