U-Wing Stats for EotE?

By Grapthar91, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

The 2-3 where more a guess because of size, not actual traveling in the movie, which is Speed of Plot ;) .

Size? I would compare it to a Helicopter in Vitnam, maybe the 1x5-to double the size for the passagner as the Huey

Pic says it all

Thanks for that. I'm hoping to see the movie this week if all goes well, so I'll see if I get the chance to edit my guesswork afterward.

Couldn't help but think of these two scenes seeing the Monkey Alien firing from the side door in the U-Wing. Warning, as this is a Vietnam War Flick there will be some bad language, and some rather racially insensitive language.

I would go with the silhouette 3 size too. The inside is literally just the cockpit and a room with seating. The HWK-290 is silhouette 3, and while it carries less people it has a cargo hold, the U-wing doesn't really carry cargo beyond a team's gear, and I feel looking at them they would be about the same size. Personal opinion of course, and silhouettes are really abstract as others have pointed out.

After FINALLY seeing the movie this weekend (a late Christmas gift from my wife), I think I have a better idea for a writeup:

Era : Rise of the Empire/Rebellion

Hull type : Dropship

Ship Class : UT-60D (U-Wing)

Manufacturer : Incom Corporation

Hyperdrive : Class 2 (Backup Class 15)

Navcomp: Equipped

Sensor Range : Medium

Ship's Complement : Pilot, Co-Pilot (Optional: Door Gunners x2; from passengers

Encumbrance Capacity : 10 (not including passengers and their carried gear)

Passenger Capacity : 10

Consumables : 1 month

Cost/Rarity : Not Available For Sale

Customization Hard Points : 3

Silhouette : 3

Speed : 4

Handling : +1

Defense : 1/1

Armor : 3

Hull Threshold : 17

System Threshold : 18

Weapons :

Forward Mounted Laser Cannons (Fire Arc Forward; Damage 6; Critical 3; Range [Close]; Linked 1)

Optional, dependent on loadout: 2 Door Guns (Variable based on mission. Does not require a hard point)

Logic : There are ten seats in troop area (six in the middle with three facing each door, two by each door facing the middle area), so that would be the estimated number of passengers. Encumbrance is clearly a challenge, so I would estimate it as 10 after full loadout carried by the crew. As we saw some rather heavy equipment carried by the troops, giving this a set Encumbrance rating is challenging.

I would say that the passengers with all of their necessary gear would fit. Essentially, suit of armor, a pair of weapons (heavy weapons at most), and a bag of gear ranging from explosives to general equipment. I would simply as "As much as needed" but, after the ship is full of passengers and gear, a 10 should fit.

As the ship is a small transport to hop in, drop off, and fight as needed, I wanted it to be a slightly more competent HWK built for combat. It has slightly less HT and HP, but better armor. I also left it with fewer HP to allow for electronic countermeasures. I'd even argue to drop it down to 2 HP instead of 3, but it's hard to say.

As was said before, it's up to the GM.
But that said, since I want to give my Players the option of acquiring a U-Wing and wanted to get a feel for the size of the ship I went ahead and compared the following images.
LAAT Image & U-Wing Image

Using the Clones / Rebels standing in the hatches as a comparable size, I found that in respects of height the LAAT is only marginally higher than the U-Wing (which surprised me to be honest) with a factor of 0.2 .
Ship length was a bit more tricky due to the perspective being less than optimal on the LAAT, so I went with this image for the LAAT . Here I came up with a ratio of human to ship (even when adding the hatch doors of the LAAT) the LAAT being a factor of 0.692 shorter in length than the U-Wing's Main Hull (without S-Foils). Seeing as the S-Foils are nearly twice as long as the U-Wings Main Hull (main hull is slightly more than 1/3 of the whole ship length), I can certainly relate to and understand FFG's decision to give the U-Wing a Silhouette of 4.

There might be a slight error margin with my observations.

I made these calculations mainly for my own purposes but thought I'd share.

I have to say, I was thoroughly in the Silhouette 3 camp before doing this. But after rewatching Rogue One in addition to doing this, I felt my perception was scewed before, mainly due to some interior shots of the U-Wing being oddly cramped and small. But in shots where you can see the interior from the front ramp, it certainly feels as a Silhouette 4 to me.

Official uwing stats are in dawn of rebellion, if I recall it's silhouette 4 which doesn't make sense to me

But sil 3 makes perfect sense for the KST-100? ;)

No it doesn't, IMHO the kst-100 should be sil 4 and the u-wing should be sil 3.

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. I was just giving you a hard time because I know how much you love that ship/horrible mess of stats. No offense intended. :)

Sil 4 vs sil 3 wouldn't change how much I love it. On the whole great stats (would prefer armor 3, medium sensors, faster hyperdrive, more powerful guns, but that would be crazy imbalanced for 120K, and the 120K is an essential part of the "wow because i can start the game with this" factor) but as an added bonus it looks freaking cool!
