U-Wing Stats for EotE?

By Grapthar91, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Does anyone know if there are any stats for the U-Wing for EotE? My group wants that to be their starting ship, but I have yet to find stats for it for EotE or any SWRPG for that matter.

Nope. It's a new ship from Rogue One. It's stats might appear in an Age of Rebellion book or Rogue One Beginner Game next year.

Gah... You think there will be a Rogue One beginners box? I don't need more dices! Seven sets is enough!

Would the map be deckplans for the Deathstar?

Either there will be a Rogue One Beginner game or the new stuff will be spread out over the next AoR books.

I doubt they'll go for a beginner's box with Rogue One, seeing as how the game is set squarely in the Rebellion era and involves the Rebel Alliance fighting the Empire. Much more likely that we'll be seeing ships and gear from Rogue One appearing in various AoR supplements in the future.

Too far off! NEED stuff now. :( :P

Can't be hard to figure out.. we've already got a lot of raw materials.

Don't forget the door guns, because door guns are sweet.

You could always stat up your own unofficial version. It’s not that hard to do.

Or maybe ask LibrariaNPC to take that one on for you, if you’re not able to do it yourself.

I am hoping it shows up in the Spy book for AoR. It would've fit great into the Soldier book, especially as that book could have used a starship entry of this sort, but that ship has already sailed.

I looked at the thread to see if someone was going to stat it, and my name shows up. Apparently, I've been summoned.

It's not too hard to stat most ships, but like some of the ships from The Force Awakens, it's hard to stat something without having enough details readily available. Right now, we only have a few pictures, some toys, and a blurb from a cancelled book. I can attempt to eyeball it, but really, even I'm looking at this saying "I can't make bricks without clay."

For pure guesswork, here's how I'd approach it

Era: Rise of the Empire/Rebellion

Hull type: Troop Transport

Ship Class: UT-60D (U-Wing)

Manufacturer: Incom Corporation

Hyperdrive: Class 2 (Backup Class 15)

Navcomp: Equipped

Sensor Range: Medium

Ship's Complement: Pilot, Door Gunners (minimum 1)

Encumbrance Capacity: 50 (with full passengers and their carried gear)

Passenger Capacity: 27 (3 squads with leaders)

Consumables: 1 month

Cost/Rarity: Not Available For Sale

Customization Hard Points: 3

Silhouette: 4

Speed: 3

Handling: 0

Defense: 1/1

Armor: 3

Hull Threshold: 20

System Threshold: 18

Weapons:

Forward Mounted Laser Cannons (Fire Arc Forward; Damage 6; Critical 3; Range [Close]; Linked 1)

2 Door Guns (Uncertain if these are anti-vehicle or anti-personnel. Basically, Blaster Cannons or E-Webs; you can argue that they are interchangeable based on missions)

Again, this is PURE guesswork. If it proves to be a superiorly agile transport, you can argue a +1, but even then, the +0 Handling may be better for balance for a ship that size without modifications. These ships need to be reliable and can take the strain of coming in hot (extra maneuvers), so it has a rather high System Threshold. Hull is also guesswork, as this isn't a gunship, and is relying on speed for it's size to get in; I put it beneath a YT-1300 for that reason, but with comparable armor and shields. It's an Incom military vessel and not a CEC freighter, so there isn't much room to customize it, thus the 3 HP.

The passengers and cargo are also purely guesswork. I don't know how many people can fit into one of these yet, but I would guess it should be able to carry 2-3 squads of 9 people (two fire teams of 4 each, plus a squad leader). I went high for now, but we might see that it carries less when we see it in action.

Cargo for ships like this is always a royal pain, as FFG has not given guidelines of translating passenger space into cargo (and vice versa), which is a point I've raised multiple times during playtests and here on the forums, especially with ships that are built for one purpose but used for another (or those that give the option of a vehicle in the cargo bay). I'd handwave it in action as "small cargo, whatever gear is needed for the time."

I hope that helps!

Looks good, thanks for posting. I only see a couple things that I might have done differently.

I had thought of the U-wing as a very small Silhouette 4. I would lower the HT and ST a bit to reflect that. Just a tad though for game purposes since you don't want a troop transport to be easily knocked out of the sky.

As you said your passenger capacity is a guess. I had guessed the craft as more of a squad carrier then a platoon carrier. In the pictures we get you see a "squad" standing up without seating. I could imagine more squeezed in there in a pinch (GM house rules could easily double capacity), but I don't think it was intended as holding nearly 30 troops back there plus a gunner at each door.

As the model designation implies (UT-60) this has similarities with a UH-60 Black Hawk. I think that was intended. There is even a designator at the end of the model number "D" like various UH-60's have. The original UH-60 is a helicopter that transports troops or supplies while being able to provide ground support. It has 2 seats side by side up front (check), capability for 2 door gunners on the sides (check), front fired weapon pods (check), and is designed to carry around a squad of troops.

Model numbers aside, I think the Soviet Hind is a better pattern for the U-wing.

I would guess it's a "small 4" as well, but it's really tough to tell as we only see it near smaller ships (x-wings), but not close enough for easy scale. Then again, Silhouettes are also extremely abstract.

I went with the hull I did solely because, as you said, you don't want to knock a troop transport out of the sky. I'd be too afraid of bringing it any lower, as it'd be a slower HWK-like ship if you change too much. Personally, I'd go no lower than 18 Hull, 16 System Strain (but an argument could be made for 14).

As for passengers, I have to concede the point. I'll also admit I haven't watched any of the new trailers yet (trying to not get super hyped by them), but they reminded me a great deal of the LAAT/i gunships, which carried 30 passengers (so 3 squads). If anything, I'd drop this to 2 squads at the lowest, as having a ship like this to drop a single squad in just looks like a waste.

Again, this is all conjecture based on images and sporadic notes, so until we get more data, everything is pure guesswork.

Whether a troop transport needs to be tough is determined by how it is expected to deliver troops. If it's intended to drop into heavy combat it needs resilience in excess of what something meant for covert insertions requires. It may also find the best defense in numbers--deploy multiple light squad transports rather than a single platoon transport. In this system, multiple smaller vessels are often collectively tougher than a single larger vessel.

In any event, the U-wing doesn't need a month of consumables. One week is plenty.

Consider using the Krayt gunship as a starting point but remember that the Krayt is supposed to be towards the awesome end of what a vessel tha size can do.

This is true, but again, haven't really seen it in action outside of minor snippets, so again, guesswork.

Also, the month is also just a guess, because I don't know if this is the main ship of the group (and therefore they are living on it) or if it's like a fighter: hop in and drop.

LibrariaNPC you are the bomb digidy! Thank you good sir. This is a great starting point for me to get my players a U-Wing until the official one comes out, if ever. Again, thank you!

Here's a decent shot for some sort of size reference.

Also, anyone else notice how much it borrows from the (admittedly much smaller) Thunderfighter from 1979's Buck Rogers in the 25th Century ? (Then again, the Thunderfighter borrows from the X-Wing, and it looks like the design for the A-Wing borrows from the Thunderfighter as well.)

Glad to be of service! Feel free to tweak it as you see fit to work in your game; I see my stats are more of a set of guidelines to play with until FFG creates something official.

It seems the U-wing also has torpedoes.

I have no clue what the symbols on there mean (I've avoiding the X-Wing line due to lack of funding and putting my money into the RPGs), but if it really does have torpedoes, I'm guessing it'd be one launcher with 6 torps, if that. Seems odd, but if the vessel has to be a multi-role vehicle (some combat with troop transport), then it'd make sense.

Adding the launcher shouldn't impact the current setup too much.

It also has an electronic suite which can be electronic countermeasures.

I have death star plans. Just look for the manual on amazo.

As someone who does play X-wing I can help with the symbols.

It has room for electronic which could be anything from a Sensor Jammer to a Fire Control System to Advance Sensors to Reinforced Shielding.

It has two crew slots which means it carries crew and passengers similar to a Lambda Shuttle.

Using the Lambda as a base is has similar base weaponry, but a Lambda could mount heavier weaponry. It's slightly more fragile than a Lambda, but it's much faster and more maneuverable (think somewhere between an ARC-170 and an X-Wing).

I recently got the U-Wing for my X-Wing collection and it came with Sensor Jammer and Stealth device so it's intended to be more of a "Covert Infiltration" ship than a "Planetary Assault" ship.

Guesstimate form the seen movie:

Passage Seat : around 8, you can squish more, but it´s only for short travel

Silhouette: 3, it´s mostly "big" because of the wings.

Pilot+Copilot seat.

Handling:+1

Speed: 4

Hyperdrive: 2-3

Armor: 3

So, basically a smaller Kom'rk class fighter/transport?

I haven't seen the movie yet (schedules, joy), but I I do say that a military vessel should have a x1 or an x2 hyperdrive. The rest I need to see the ship in action to get an idea of size.
