corran horn's wing mate

By nulnulnix, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi, I am a starting player and I don't have much experience yet. I want to ask you what do you think is the best wing mate for Corran Horn. Please let me have your suggestions.

I don't play with the E-Wing much, but any big ship is normal. I think the YT-2400 is the most popular. Or, Nora Wexley in the ARC-100. Or Nathan Eddie's list from last year's Worlds, Corran, Poe, and an A-Wing blocker.

It is very dependent on how you build Corran. The builds for Corran range from 42ish points up to 50. How are you planning to build him?

There are two main Corran builds around these days:

Budget Corran (42 points)

R2-D2

Fire Control System

Veteran Instincts

Good Corran (50)

R2-D2

Engine Upgrade

Push The Limit

Advanced Sensors

Either way, the key to flying Corran is that he's an and-game monster. Meaning that if its Corran vs one other ship, he will probably win. This is mainly due to his shield regeneration due to R2-D2, but also his 3 agility and access to the evade action. As such, it is always best to run Corran with a more tempting target. Say, Dash Rendar (Corran's most common partner). This stops the opponent from focusing on Corran, allowing him to survive until the endgame where he is most powerful.

Below is a favorite Corran list of mine. Probably not the strongest ever, but I really like having an A that is a bit longer for the world and can be a bit more efficient on offence, besides just blocking (mostly cuz I guess wrong constantly). Both poe and corran can carry end game, but poe is easier to get smoked early, so I like to lead with the A and E and try to flank/stay at R3 with Poe durring the first engagements. Also, I like to use the 2x tap when I plan the send Horn out of the fight to heal up and stay evassive to come back fresh to relieve poe. The A stays right inb the knife fight trying to get 3reds as often as he can with PTL almost always unless I want to plan/hint at a K-turn.

Regen Rebs (100)

Corran Horn (41) - E-Wing
Adaptability (0), R2-D2 (4), Fire Control System (2)

Poe Dameron (36) - T-70 X-Wing
Adaptability (0), R5-P9 (3), Autothrusters (2)

Green Squadron Pilot (23) - A-Wing
Push The Limit (3), Chardaan Refit (-2), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Autothrusters (2), Wired (1)

Its done well even having sucess vs Palp/Inq/Fel. Trap one of the aces in focus fire from all three and get the double tap and you should put damage on if not smoke one. U-boats used to give me trouble if they got one off the board early, but thats why I lead with the A&E

What about this?

Corran Horn (49)

R2-D2

Engine Upgrade

Push The Limit

Advanced Sensors

Kanan Jarrus (51)

Sensor Jammer

Dorsal Turret

Plasma Torpedoes

Recon Specialist

Chopper

Guidance Chips

Lando Calrissian (44)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Nien Nunb (1)
Hot Shot Co-Pilot (4) - 50 points .

Strip focus from your opponent with PS9 Lando with the added bonus of free actions! (Careful flying required).

Nice build - a ghost will certainly be a good distraction.

I can see tat you're using a lot of cards from the Ghost pack. Its a good build, but that particular version of Kanan is very susceptible to bumping (no focus is particularly bad). I'd recommend (if you have the cards for it):

Kanan Jarrus (50)

Engine Upgrade

Jyn Erso

Rey

Autoblaster Turret

Fire Control System

Plus Corran from above.

This is only possible once the U-wing expansion pack is released (as Jyn Erso isn't yet available, for now she could be replaced by an intelligence agent). Once its out, however, you have the option of either giving Kanan 4 focus in a turn (1 from Rey and 3 from Jyn), or giving Kanan 1 from Rey and Corran an extra 3 for super strong defense.

An autoblaster will have higher damage output in the long run than a dorsal turret, and helps a great deal against any kind of ace (range 1 = death), whereas a dorsal turret is sort of in the middle of everything - worse than a TLT but with better range than an autoblaster.

This is all true. My only addition would be that the most tempting target is the target you literally cannot ignore...Biggs. If you run budget Corran with Biggs, you have 32 point to play with for a 3 ship build. My favorite, and the build I will probably be running for my regional tournament is:

Corran:

-VI

-R2-D2

-FCS

Biggs:

-R4-D6

-Integrated Astro

Wes:

-VI

-BB-8

dont forget Corran and Miranda made it to top 3 in worlds

I love Corran, the standard Push the limit, Engine Upgrade, R2D2, and Fire Control being my favorite. He's expensive, and can be very fragile in the new world, but he still puts on the hurt.

Han has been my favorite wing mate for him, arguably built stupidly, but he works VERY well for me. Ezra, Wired, C3PO. Get stressed, stay stressed, put on some hurt.

Dash is also a very good partner, really like him and Corran together, but thats because Dash is an a-hole.

I haven't had much luck with other small ships for his wingmate as they are usually not as intimidating as him which allows the enemy to focus Corran down and make him die. I guess you could run a Biggs and something else... but there are more effective ships to run like your Ghost build.

My latest build has been Coran / Chewie (Crit Immune version) using some new HOTR tech.

C & C Rebel Factory (99 points)

Coran - Push the Limit, R2-D2, Fire Control System, and Engine Upgrade

Chewbacca (Crit Immune version) - Trick Shot, Rey, C-3PO, Smuggling Compartment, Rigged Cargo Chute, Anti-Pursuit Lasers, Millennium Falcon Title (Evade)

Chewbacca is very versatile because he can focus / evade / C-3P0 for defense or go with Tick Shot / focus / Target Lock (leverage Rigged Cargo Chute when possible) for offense. He is a nice blocker against Dengar, Boskk, and Defenders. The 1 point bid is defense against other Coran or Miranda builds that use all 100 squad points. The idea is for Chewbacca to stretch the game as long as possible and get my Corran against 1 of there ships which should put me in a good spot.

I have had enough success to start testing against top tier squads. Need to fly it against some defenders and Manolink builds though.
