Make ISDs Great Again

By Ardaedhel, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Nothing super groundbreaking, just my take on trying to get an ISD-centric list to work in the face of MSUs and bombers. Two fairly standard ISD2's, and a very token squadron force to be played defensively as needed and pad deployments. Motti, because who else would i bring for this?

Two Slicer Tools give me utility, letting me slice off navs to force you into the ISD arcs or squadrons to neuter/delay carrier activations. This is also part of my ongoing campaign to force my local meta to keep worrying about Slicer Tools to keep the squadron lists honest. :)

In my experience while Slicer Tools (and double-slicers) sound nice, multiple Comms Net give you better utility with ISDs. Also you may find that your ISDs lack punch in this configuration.

However I'm interested to see the results of running this fleet.

Do you have a better recommendation for the ISD builds at a comparable price point? I'm admittedly not great at building ISDs, I was just going for a broadly applicable ISD build. :)

Depends on what you want to do with them:

XI7 for hunting MC30s, Intel officers for hunting flotillas. I do prefer an ISD1+Spinals/ISD2 mix to a double ISD2 fleet.

I second comma net advice. .. and along with comma net perhaps ozzel... nav tokens isd and ozzel is very nice and please try to go first. .. ... nothing worse than watching ships escape your front arc because you can't activate first

Being first is a double-edged sword: if you have enough activations as a second player, you can watch ships flying INTO your front arc as they can't delay that activation anymore.

I actually like that idea much better.

(I basically like all weapons teams except ordnance experts)

Man, I just haven't found an application I really like for VG other than the VSD-1. I haven't mathed it on the ISD1, but I'm pretty sure LS is better for even one shot--and it's cheaper, and it's not even an exhaust.

To be fair, its on the VSDI that i have fallen in love with them.

Though for me they just ensure I get a fluke 5+ damage on every three red shock. Ok, occasionally 4 dmg with acc, but you cant win em all.

Maybe another goz as well. .. doubt those tie fighters are going to get you much

Well drop slicers as well and you can afford a raider... now where have I seen that before?

You get a like just for the title!

I'm still trying to work on using Slicer tools. Let us know how it goes.

Relentless + Skilled Officer is da bomb lol.

With ECM'S and flotillas you could even try running Tagge.

Well, I love them in my Rebel swarm lists, though I think they have a little bit of a different emphasis here. I also think the Isard/Slicer Tools combo is woefully underappreciated.

I've used it, not really a huge fan of it. But maybe thats because I've never put slicer tools to that much use.

I'm not sure. I don't think that Isard adds that much value there because usually you know what ship you need to slice even without her help.

Not necessarily. It really lets you target your dickery pretty well. I've only used it once so far, so it may have been just a fluke, but it let me really shut down the other guy's command game.

I was able to lock his ISD into speed 1 the whole game because I knew when it was going to have nav up, so I could slice it and flood him with squadron commands instead; and I knew when the ISD didn't have squadron commands so I knew when slicing the squadron commands off of his Gozantis would be most effective, and time my squadron push to coincide with that lockout.

Sure, some games you'll be up against Yavaris bombers, and it's pretty obvious when you need to hit Yavaris. In those games, what did you waste, 3 points? I'm okay with a 3-point situational upgrade that's very useful in some games.

I see your point, however I still feel that the advantage is too situational (your opponent didn't have any slicers protection AND didn't have an effective way to deal with flotillas) so the points would give you a better return elsewhere (for example bumping ISD1 to Gunnery Team+LS version)
