Anyone playing SW: Galaxy of Heroes app?

By Conandoodle, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I've never spent a single cent on this game and never will.

I just got up to level 72 today. Arena battles are getting kind of pointless now. I have to keep refreshing and hope I find a fluke squad to beat as everyone else is way better than me. My main squad is mainly 4-5 star characters who are on stage 8-9 for upgrades.

Same goes for galactic conquest or whatever it's called. I haven't won that in quite awhile. The squads at the end are just too good.

I bought a dark side pack a while back and scored Sidius and Maul. Both have helped me greatly. Was less than $10 and given the hours of entertainment (although I'd uninstalled it a few times in frustration) I don't mind paying a few bucks. Heck, paid $45 for the newest Call of Duty on Xbox and already looking to trade it after about an hour or two.

Tip: Stop giving a hoot about Squad Arena. Your Galactic War battles are based on your highest squad power you've played in Squad Arena. I read that the 10th node is 100% your squad power, 11th is 105% and 12th is 110% - which is why it's so hard. I have never used a squad in arena of more than 18,000. My squad consists of 3 kickazz fellas and 2 lvl 1's. Can beat most 25,000 pt. squads and will never get above 500th .. but I ALWAYS crush Galactic War. Why? I found there were better prizes in Galactic War than Squad Arena.

Yeah, Galactic War is where my "gotta collect them all" mentality at first benefited me. I had a good solid roster on par with my top 5, and I had a deep bench for suicide runs. You should also keep an eye on synergies. My main GW squad is technically weaker than my top 5 characters, but dear god, does it hit way above what it should by power rating.

I mean, I can take squads with 6-7 thousand more power than me in arena with Palp, Vader, TIE Pilot, Royal Guard, and Fett.

In my experience, Galactic War isnt all that hard as long as you've got 2 beefy tanks like Royal Guard, St. Han, Chewy, or even my brand new Sun Fac :) to absorb the damage from squishier characters and a good healer to make sure your good characters don't just slowly die over the course of 12 battles.

The team I run for Galactic War and Arena is:

Akbar as lead (Heals my team with Tactical Genius as well as healing my team when he gets rid of all their de-buffs. Also gives everybody A LOT of extra turns.)

Luminara (heals my whole team with her special ability and gives them heal over time for a couple turns)

Qui Gon (Doesn't heal anybody or absorb damage, but I needed somebody to get rid of enemy taunts)

St. Han (absorbs damage from squishy characters like Akbar and Qui Gon, as well as granting extra turns to my other heroes when he is damaged.

Royal Guard (Ridiculous health pool and auto-taunts any time somebody falls below 50% health, taking some of the heat off Han. With healers, Royal guard's ability triggers multiple times since I can bring damaged characters back above 50% health.)

Rey is probably better than Luminara for Arena with this team because Rey hits MUCH harder and Arena battles are much shorter than a Galactic War campaign, giving heal a diminished value. Over the course of 12 Galactic War Battles though, Luminara definitely pulls her weight. Could also switch Akbar to Old Ben because Ben's Ability Block and Offense Down on the opposing team is another good way to keep the team alive instead of Akbars various heals. Old Ben also gives everybody a bunch of Evasion chance as a leader, so he makes your team dodge attacks entirely quite often. All of these characters are free-to-play as well, but Rey and Old Ben are a little harder to farm, Only being available from Guild Store and Cantina Battles respectively.

Tl;dr- Squad synergy is definitely important for Arena and Galactic War. If you can't describe your team's general strategy in 2 sentences, it's probably not very good.

Boba Fett laughs at taunters, by the way. He ignores the taunt ability as long as he's got his ability active (starting the match and each time he kills someone after he dies and revives the first time).

Qui-Gon, Biggs, and Fives make for a very, very powerful team as they can all bring in allies for the attack. Qui-Gon can also strip buffs including taunt, and Fives has counter-attack.

Old Ben is great for his ability block and the fact that if he dies, he massively buffs your entire team.

Sidious is also decent for heal-block (oh you need to heal your attacker? Too bad.) Damage over time that hits everyone, and he regains health every time someone dies.

Vader can just stack debuffs and DoT with his Force Choke.

Palpatine is just nasty.

Yeah, Boba is nasty against my team when he is super fast since I have 2 taunting tanks. I have to get my Han to taunt before he goes so that Royal Guard can stun him with the extra turn meter gain. Thats why I focused on Akbar as lead before Old Ben, because Akbar makes Han very fast. Akbar can also clear the heal immunity that gets applied to anyone on my team.

That's why I love Boba Fett with my Empire team. Vader's Culling Blade and Fett's Execute will be quite devastating after all the debuffs I can throw on them.

I do love the Kylo Ren rework they did. Faced a new First Order squad at the end of GW, and dear god where they fast.

Are you going to Zeta Vader's leader ability so that your Damage over Time never expires? I've seen people do some pretty ridiculous damage that way!

Well, the dev update clarified when new characters will be released to be farmable. So, about 2-3 months after an event like Krennic and Deathtrooper they will be farmable.

Also multiple new Yoda and Palpatine events are coming.

When I see Ackbar, my team's usually faster than Ackbar is....so he gets focused down first and I have two ability blockers. Ackbar's weakness is his own speed and defense, he tends to take damage a lot quicker than most others you pair him with and is slower.

That said, Ackbar with Wedge, Biggs, and Lando is definitely a tough nut to crack if you can't outspeed Biggs and Lando. Group with Qui-Gon or Fives....and suddenly you've got a LOT of attacks coming in, with no need for taunting. Ackbar's special + Biggs/Fives/Qui-Gon's special = 3 attacks on a single target.

I need to just beat the last Yoda one....but dear god....I breezed through all the others, but I'm at level 76 with Qui-Gon, Old Ben, Ashoka, Windu, and Consular (all modded and at least gear level VII) with Qui-Gon and Old Ben at max for several skills. And I don't know if it'll be enough.

Some interesting strategies.

I've found in Galactic War, my best team is just high DPS. Fett, Maul, Biggs, Wedge and QGJ (or Luminara if I think I might need a heal). I can usually destroy their big hitters reasonably quickly. Maul eats Jedis.

In Arena I just roll with Fett, Maul and Biggs and 2 lvl 1 chumps to keep my Squad Power down.

My current team is

Luminara as lead, Biggs, Wedge, Ahsoka and Jedi Consular. I mainly focus on one character and current turn order to start is Wedge and target the biggest threat (normally Palp or just knock out Royal Guard/Han before they can taunt) then Biggs, (so defence down prior to Biggs sniping) if they are still there ahsoka cleans them up.

i do have a strong Chewie but i'm currently farming Bariss for her health and healing abilities. i will also have a strong sith squad once i get Maul sorted.

Wish I found this thread earlier... Good tips that would have been good to have... Currently level 37.

Send me an Ally request if you need some heroes to borrow! My code can be found earlier in this thread.

Got my 7-star Yoda.

Had to spend a few weeks focusing on getting Windu up. But being able to outspeed the little green muppet was crucial, especially with Eeth Koth and Asohka backing him up.

See, I used Ima Gun Di as me lead. His attack everyone move was a poor choice.

My team for it was Qui-Gon (Leader), Old Ben, Asohka, Windu, Consular. All 7 stars, All modded with health boost mods, all at least to Gear Level VII, and Qui-Gon and Old Ben at max level for several abilities.

Was still a hard battle

Maybe some day I'll get Yoda... I missed out on him this time not even having good enough Jedi for tier 4 lol. I'll have Old Ben up and running soon though and then I can start focusing on Mace, Consular or Asohka. Yoda is coming back in April right?

He is a bi monthly event, so it's okay to miss out. I missed out 7 starring him last month, in my rush to get Palpatine. Finished him off this time, and kind of disappointed at how easy it was. It seemed much harder at 6 star.

Yoda is fast. I really suggest getting Qui-Gon leveled and his leader ability to as high as you can get it since it gives a major speed boost to all Jedi allies. He's also a great debuffer, better than Mace, because when leveled, his debuffing also gives Offense Up to all allies. Add in the fact that he has a quick cooldown on his Ally-Attack ability, and he's great overall, but especially against Yoda.

Don't worry about debuffing, and concentrate on using Asohka for healing (her secondary attack). The trick I learned for Yoda at 5-7 star levels is attack, attack, attack. You have to pour as much damage onto him as possible as quick as possible. Yoda has a very high tenacity so debuffing doesn't work 90% of the time. Too many healers, and he'll win through attrition as you can't get enough damage through before he just solos your entire team.

Next I gotta get Palp. Right now my team is looking like Ackbar, Biggs, Wedge, Bistan, Scariff Pathfinder. May try and get Baze Malbus to replace Bistan, as Baze is my next highest.

I would recommend Lando. His ability will be pretty useful against all the Royal Guards. And as a Scoundrel, pretty helpful with the Credit and Training Droid weekly events.

Well, I just bumped Bistan out with Baze. Lando would take some work. But do I replace the massive damage output that is Baze...or the Taunting and Revival that is the Pathfinder?

Hmm...

Do you also have Chirrut? Id go with Chirrut, Baze, Lando, Wedge and Biggs (Wedge Lead) ideally. Wedge gives turn meter and health recovery to Rebels after they score a critical hit if I'm not mistaken. Which is good because Lando is going to crit a lot with his special and Wedge and Biggs crit a lot too.

Edit: Also, Chirrut does pretty much the same job as Akbar but much better, especially if he is with Baze.

I've only got the basic Chirrut, so he's not going to even be close to being able to participate. I have to go against the 7-star Palp for this.
