Hats off to FFG on this awesome game. So far my wife and I are really enjoying it. She enjoys the co-op nature and playing together against the game, and we both love the Arkham setting.
Our first experience running through the campaign was fantastic. I didn't intend to post here about it but the ending was so good I decided I had too. I played Roland and she played Wendy and we started off on "easy" but every scenario was very close!
We died in our very first play through and decided to just reset and start over as we got a few of the rules a bit wrong. (Involving engagement and attacking) In the second play-through with a better understanding of the rules we took our time to build up some assets and not pound through the act deck. We won with a good amount of damage and horror on us, it was pretty close! The victory was well earned and the first scenario is fun. It was fun to make the choices after, my wife picked for us and we did something that resulted in me taking some mental trauma...
The second scenario was also great, showcasing the location system pretty well and expanding upon the story telling through game-play. We interrogated 4 before we had to resign to avoid midnight, not bad!
(Some Detailed spoilers in this one) The 3rd scenario to wrap everything up was awesome. We were dong well at first but things started to go very wrong with a few bad draws and skill checks. Marching forward, we defeated the remaining cultists in the main path and went to work disrupting the ritual. It came down to a single skill check... and we failed. Umordhoth was summoned and engaged with us. At this point, we were both exhausted, with much damage and horror, both 1 hit from defeat, with hardly any assets or resources... It was the final turn... The wife couldn't go being engaged with Umordhoth so I started my turn - we were both upset we came all this way and with 1 skill check we failed and it seemed we would surely die...
My last turn I decided to draw...and drew Lita (I know you see where this is going) With my second action I put her out... and with my third and final action...I threw Lita into Umordhoths gaping mouth and ended the Campaign... I think it was the only possible thing that could of happened that didn't result in us dying...what luck!
It really was a truly "Arkham" moment, in both the sheer hopelessness, and by scraping by in the most horrific fashion in the 11th hour with a dastardly act... It really sealed the deal for me on loving this game.
Can't wait to play it a bunch more and I hope everyone else is having fun similar experiences!
Happy Investigating!
