How to get started in Skirmish events

By AgentJ, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

I am looking at getting into IA Skirmish events at the FLGS (I will be running the events). I feel that getting started so late is going to make it very difficult. That is why I come to the community for help. The following is what I think I need to do, please correct me if I am wrong. Also please advice on how best to do this.

1). I need to learn the rules so I can judge the events.

2). I need to learn popular teams/cards so I know how they work.

3). Rules and how things interact with other cards, special abilities, etc.

4). Build Skirmish teams - something I have never done.

What is the best way for me to go about doing these things? What did I miss?

Thanks to everyone that helps me.

Welcome! First, you just have to know the rules well enough to be able to play, you wont have to memorize every thing. It is helpful to know your meta so you can counter it. Hope this helps! I dont have much tme right know, I will try to answer the other two questions later.

Welcome aboard buddy.

1). I need to learn the rules so I can judge the events: yes. Luckily you can have a rulebook with you and a copy of the newest errata PDF. Make sure that all players are aware of the cards that has been changed, since it can really ruin a day if they build lists thinking their dudes do something they don't.

2). I need to learn popular teams/cards so I know how they work; It's always good to have an idea about the meta. It's not crucial however. Vaders finest podcast talks a lot about popular power builds, it's a good cast and it could be valuable to you.

3). Rules and how things interact with other cards, special abilities, etc: yes. You need to know the rules and especially the timing.

4). Build Skirmish teams - something I have never done; Copy from Vaders finest. They have an entire episode talking about builds thats very good and can give you some ideas.

Good luck with it, I hope this helps a little.
