What's the best option?

By CheapCreep, in Star Wars: Destiny

Hello Destineers, I'm a regular casual magic the gathering player looking to get my feet wet with Star Wars Destiny. I want to buy into the game at around 100 dollars. I sadly live in a part of Canada that had no pre release events and now must wait for actual release in December. With this as my option, I was wondering if it would be in my best interest to go for two starter packs and a handful of boosters, or just get a full booster box to buy into the game?

Are the starter packs value enough to buy into? Are they an amazing starter point?

Secondly, my favourite decks in magic are fast burn (direct damage) decks and combo decks. Are these available archetypes in destiny? What cards should I look for to build such a deck? Any information welcome.

I think both starters are worth it. Rey is pretty good as a character and Jedi Robes and Force Throw are considered pretty competitive. Kylo is also good, with Mind Probe being another good reason to get that pack.

There's a number of abilities that deal direct damage, such as Kylo's special.

I'd buy one of each starter and a bunch of boosters. The starter decks give you a lot of good cards to build around.

I agree. Buy 1 of each starter and then a box of boosters. I have both starters and 16 boosters and have plenty of cards to build and customize two decks.

I think mind probe and force throw both warrant 2 ofs, especially mind probe. Also 2 Finn die can only be got by getting 2 starters.

I would agree if you're a completionist, but the original post mentioned a specific budget of about $100 and for that money I think they are better of with single starters and some boosters.

It is not set in stone to buy each starter twice I would definitly buy 15 boosters and a hero or vilain starter depending on the boosters for casual play. IF you land a hero or vilain character for instantce. Or you get all hero upgrades that makes the choice easier.

Me I am in the lucky position to be able to buy bot starters and 10 boosters. And later on a boosterbox when available. This game has a slow start but value Will stay with later releases.

With one of both starters can make you a legal deck on your choice of side. But add ten boosters you Will have more options. So if I had a 100 dollars I would buy Both starters and 70 dollars worth of boosters.

You'll have fun even in competitie again st mr. Suitcase

This. Each starter can be built around to some extent, and the boosters can be used to provide enough support to build them both into viable decks for a full game. Gives you the chance to introduce the game to friends as well.

Something nobody has said yet, but the starter sets have resource/shield/damage tokens, so you're probably going to want at least one.

There's also the fact that the starters have some starter-exclusive cards/dice in them.

While the tokens are nice... if you own ANY other FFG Star Wars game, you already have the tokens you need to play this game. (they are slightly different of course) I'm guessing you'll need these tokens for official tournaments.

Overall, it's hard to imagine getting into this game though without one of the starters.
