I have been working on an Ion Scyk to fly with Asajj. Get stressed, hit by ion. Can't clear stress, can't do actions. Hopefully a different way to handle /x7's.
The only ship I don`t own is a scyk. trying to talk myself into it.
Isn't the M3 the only ship, which can be played as a Heavy Laser Cannon Swarm?
4 x HLC might be fun. Unless you loose 2 of them in the first round.
I don't own the TIE Punisher. Or the Inquisitor's TIE. Or any TIE/fo's. Or the TIE/sf. Or a Decimator. Or a Raider. Or the Ghost and the Phantom.
I do own two Scyks, though. They're great!
Mangler cannon is great against the mostly shieldless/very-low-shielded Empire and Scum small ships.
Coming Quadjumper might make it easier to push that crit through. There is also the unspoiled PS 5 Quad, might synergie well with TPV Scyk.
Edited by ManagarmrExactly the same here! Scyks make great snipers, if the opponents chases after them, fine. Your other ships do damage meanwhile.Mangler cannon is great against the mostly shieldless/very-low-shielded Empire and Scum small ships.

Listen to the man! He speaks truth
.
Scyks (especially with Ion or HLC) are ideal to habe one in your squad to distract the enemy from your main target ships. Nobody wants to have a HLC in the back. Include one into your squad, no more, no less
I don't think that's a ladybug. That's one of those nasty Asian beetles that will land on you and bite, and yes, they have drawn blood on my hand.
I played HotAC with a Scum build. The Syck w/autoblaster was my star performer. It was a TIE-killing little sonovagun...
Get one.
This is what I tell myself:
FFG has something in store for Scum and it will be extremely useful on Scyks.
I'll be getting at least one.
But then it occurred to me it's actually not the last ship I need.
I forgot about the ghost. So I can get the scyk and still be stubbornly missing something.
I've kinda fallen for them. They're fun in a swarm, they're great hlc platforms, they're nice filler. That extra hull comes in play every game, Mindlink is a gem, they shine at r3. I'm smitten.
Feeling the same. Love the little guys. Plus thinking of a ship that small with a HLC is hilarious.I've kinda fallen for them. They're fun in a swarm, they're great hlc platforms, they're nice filler. That extra hull comes in play every game, Mindlink is a gem, they shine at r3. I'm smitten.
Its kinda like an A-10, you build the ship around the gun.
I think you should all buy as many scyks as possible. Then when I come to buy more next year they'll be the reprinted ones with the updated title. :-p
Once, it was truly awful. Worse, with Title already in the pack, and no upgrade slots to speak of, it had no recourse, no hope for a brighter future.
Things were dark indeed, and then the Kithraxz was released as well. Thus we had not two, but three scum ships that were in need of a saviour - and the Aces packs, they could promise only salvation to two. Oh, pity the poor Scyk!
But then, a brave new dawn arose, a change that shook the very foundations of our tablemats: The Stone Tablets from up high changed. No longer were they subtle words to guide our complex lives, nay, now they had laws written upon them! Laws that changed the very fabric of reality itself!
And lo, the Scyk sucked no longer.
Give it a try. ![]()
The Scyk is the best! At least for scum. Well, probably not as good as the Protectorate. So maybe the 2nd best.... And also not counting the HWK... or Y-wing.... and probably the Z-95? And of course not in the same league as any of the scum large based.
So the Scyk is now (probably) the 2nd best scum only small based ship? I think?
It's way better than the generic starviper. So. You got that going.
Just for completionist purposes I guess I should get it.
Maybe that one that helps its buddies on defensive rolls will be fun once in a while.
but ....dang...
I mean....
ewww.
sigh.
If you fly it backwards no one will notice.
TPV with Mindlink is great. What's wrong with that? Put either an Ion Cannon or Mangler Cannon and you are good to go. Scyks weren't as bad as everyone stated before and they got better. Just don't take it to a tournament and you are fine.
"They weren't bad, they just aren't really a competitive choice."
Not exactly a strong selling point. The ship, like most scum smalls, is undertuned, even with the title change. No point sugar coating it.
Well...I have to admit that there is a new power level. Look at Worlds lists. If a ship doesn't have some sort of free token these days, it's just not worth it. At this point, there are very few ships that are "competitive" anymore. I think the Heavy Scyk fix brings it in line with normal powered ships these days. So, it's a solid ship now. Is that enough for high tables, though? Of course not. If it's not broken, you don't fly it. It's not a broken ship now. Is it a bad ship? No. Does it suck? No. Is it OP? No.

Plenty of ships fly without "free" tokens per se, usually via PTL or someat. The Scyk can get Attani to get those sweet, sweet focus tokens. The title fix helped bring the Scyk out of "suck" territory, I agree. But out of "suck" isn't quite in "good". I would say the Scyk is ... adequate? Not great, not bad, not good, just kind "an option. A Scyk with AM, Title and HLC is only 2 points less than the Quis with PTL and Title.
Don't get me wrong, I own four of the buggers. I had a blast flying:
TPV w/ PTL, Title, Mangler x2
Guri w/ VI, Title, Sensor Jammer, APT, AT, HSB
This was fresh release of scum, so no Mindlink yet. Also holy crap that Guri build is awful, what was I thinking? I lost to a friend's Decimator + Krassus Trellix list; both of my Scyks were one-shot, but I left him with 5 hull between his two ships.
I want to like the scum small ships, especially the original scum smalls like the Scyk and Starviper. But both are still just kinda there.
OK....you got me. They either get free tokens or they use PTL...usually in conjunction with something like Kanan that removes the stress. Besides that, though, you won't find many ships at the top tables.
I guess saying if it's "good" really depends on what you mean. If you mean it won't be at the high tables, but you can have a lot of fun with it in casual games (and success with it in casual games), then I say it's good. I think it's a solid ship and about middle of the pack for best/worst ships in the game. The hull upgrade for only 2 pts is good and when you put on cannon, it's a decent ship. I still think it's one of the best Ion ships in the game at 19 pts with an Ion Cannon.
I also think the Kihraxz Fighter is a decent ship. It's cheaper than the X-wing. The problem with both of those ships is that it's a jouster when you have too many PTL Arc Dodgers these days. OK...that's starting to fade, but you have all these super ships in the new power level. So, these guys don't have the OP ness that other ships do. I don't think they are bad ships, but are solid and dependable. I've used an odd Kihraxz Fighter in a list or two and beaten people's tournament lists with it.
I think it's more a question of what you are looking for. If you only want to play at the tournament level, then no, there is no reason for you to get it. If you want to play the game to have fun, then it's a useful ship that won't suck (unless you fly bad or your dice fail you).
So top 32 at worlds doesn't count for top tables. Darn, will have to win it next time. Hell, now I wanna just fly two to see people like hey Chadwick's brain implode from the sheer indecency that a sub par ship did well. Or have then back pedal and say it was dice/upgrades.
Edited by Hujoe BigsI feel ya, Huge Joe. *clinks beer bottle*

To be fair to Chadwick, he's talking the Scyk up. Also no one is pretending the ship can't make top tables, just that we recognize you're probably working harder for wins if you do. There is always something to be said for "flying what you know" and the advantages that brings, but I doubt it is a stretch to suggest that learning to fly a stronger ship as well as you fly a weaker one would get you farther.
Again, I want to love the Scyk. I want to fly a squad of scum small ships. I love the look of the Starviper. I love the nimbleness of smaller ships. But I think we're being disingenuous at best to pretend that small base scum ships, including the Scyk, are on part ship or pilotwise their imperial or rebel counterparts.
Yeah, pint in hand and your pals say, "tonight Dave, you're gonna run Scum" I add one of these fun to fly little buggars. Get one; ****, get two, I did. There nifty and pack a punch. Plus, they block well and are NEVER your oponents must-kill priority.
Fly fun, fly Scyk!

My brain wouldn't implode. I'd be tickled pink. I love non-standard stuff and people winning with what other think suck. I'm all for it and want to encourage it.
Also, I didn't say the Scyk was sub-par at all. I said it was good. I didn't say great, but I said good. I think it can make top tables, but it's not a broken ship, so could have an uphill battle to get there. I said if you are thinking it's "good" like the Tie Defender /X7 then you are not going to be happy. If you think "good" as in a solid ship that a good pilot can do well with (as long as luck doesn't turn sour), then that's what I meant.
I ended up grabbing three of the plucky lil' boogers.
They'll be in paint tomorrow and on a table shortly thereafter.
Now...one of my favorite parts! Making a list!
I want three scyks and fenn rau or three and guri.
Hmmmmmm
Well , dude i can tell u its fun and kinda competitive if well flown ,imo .
I was bored of the regular wing-mansroooooooooo for Dengar so i thought to give the Scyk a chance and by now i can tell its like ppl saying here, good but not a tie defender and btw .
If green dice betray u, even the emperor cant help...
...So i bought a second one a week ago, painted it and started to fly the following list , which i intend to play at a store championship in two weeks, where i expect to see the current top meta and few other not to underestimate lists like mine .
