Turret Idea: L-s1 turret.

By sf1raptor, in X-Wing

Ok, so I made the suggestion on another thread, but thought I'd try to get some feedback. So here's the idea:

L-s1 Turret

Range 1-2

You may add 2 die to a primary weapons attack in your firing arc. If you do, after preforming the attack, role 1 attack die. On a [hit] discard this card.

Cost: 5

So the card is based off the Y-TIE, where the Y-wing turret weapons were replaced with a TIE's L-s1 cannons, and really seems to fit Scum, and, to an extent, Rebels. So what do y'all think?

5 points for a (possible) one use weapon? Maybe.

You should make the discard roll BEFORE the attack roll. A little more thematic?

I don't know if i like 7 die R1 primaries from a VCX. Maybe make it R1 only, just to make it a bit harder to use. Or plus one dice, minus the discard effect.

That would be interesting. Maybe bring the point cost down to 3 and change the discard roll timing to this.

So is it a secondary weapon attack or a primary? The way you have it makes it a primary weapon attack but with a secondary range restriction. It would probably be better if you just put a 2 attack secondary then added " you may roll additional attack dice equal to your primary attack value up to 4." That way abilities that trigger off primary attacks don't work as well as no range bonus.

The way i see it is it's a turret upgrade that doesn't attack on its own. It ADDS dice to your regular attack when you fulfill the conditions for it.

Wording needs work (it doesn't make sense to have the range written as you do for a card that doesn't have the Attack header, for one thing) but I like it with the small ship only restriction.

Miranda really likes it, for the 6 dice attack in arc at Range 1. Does she like it more than the TLT? Not likely. Not at that price.

I would say that this has excellent potential for the HWK. Needs a clause, "if your attack value is less than 2, reduce the squad point cost of this card by 4."

So make it read "When attacking with your primary weapon at range 1-2, you may roll an attack die. On a (hit) or a (crit), discard this card. Otherwise; add two dice to your attack, to a maximum of 4 dice."

Why is it called a Turret if it only works "in your firing arc"?

Or do you simply mean it takes up a Turret slot, for essentially a coaxial weapon?...

...hmmm, this leads me to a thought... Coaxial Blaster/Laser as a Torpedo slot upgrade.

(something like - "When attacking, after their defender rolls defense dice you may immediately cancel one of their eye results.")

There is not much difference between your idea and a simple ordnance like proton torpedoes (e.g. on a Y-wing)

Hit/crit is 50-50, but if you mean you don't want it to discard, change discard to 'ignore this card'

If you look at it as a 4-7 die piece of ordnance that doesn't require a TL, or even Focus, to use and comes with the better than even chance that you don't discard it (average number of uses should be about 2+ per game) then pricing it at 5 point isn't so bad.

That's right. My bad. Ok, so the hit/crit is a good idea. I also think the discard works best.

been thinking about some double cannon upgrades (yes i know there are no ships that have 2 cannon slots, it's for a B-wing title and what i think the LAAT/space should be)

Cannon Cannon: Bubble Laser Turret: May perform 2 primary weapon attacks each turn (maximum of one per target)

Multi Cannon beam

slot: Cannon Cannon it's called Multicannon for a reason

Attack: 3

range 1-2

Text: Perform this attack twice, then receve one ion token

cost: 5

Proton Beam

slot Cannon Cannon

attack: 5

range: 1

Text when attacking you may change one Focus to a Crit, after attacking receive one ion token

cost: 5

....

The Aggressor with IG-88 flying it.

I think it's somewhat funny that someone would want to take a nice, reliable, upgrade slot and replace it with something expendable. For a long time I've wanted to see a piece of ordnance that can represent an entire magazine full of missiles/torpedoes and be used all game long like an alternative to a cannon upgrade but the suggestion of a discardable turret is pretty much the complete opposite of what I'd be looking for.

If a ship can already carry ordnance what would be the point of filling up a turret/cannon slot with what is essentially just another piece of ordnance using a different skin?
